It's not even Christmas yet but look at the gift we received this week.

EP 325 of the NDYD Radio Show has the head honcho of NDYD -  Kris Santiago (@krissantiago) steering its wheels. Kris is one of the listeners favorite as he has graced the show's decks many times before. Those listeners, and myself, know the kind of high level talent Kris is and that he always delivers a top shelf mix. Kris is very versatile also. If you follow him you know that he excels in Disco, Nu Disco, House, edits, and even Hip Hop!

What I didn't know is that he also excels in Deep House. EP 325 could have been part of the Deep End series because the sound is sophisticated and mature. It's the kind of set with music that never gets old and that will still sound fresh years from now.

The NDYD Radio Show EP325 - guest mix by Kris Santiago

If you are a regular listener of the show you probably noticed that there wasn't an NDYD episode this week. I took a Christmas break from my regular music duties - BUT there was a mix I did in early December for the FM station KXLU here in Los Angeles that I hadn't put here on Soundcloud so, here it is!

This was my second appearance on the Mystic Pete show that airs late Saturday nights on 88.9 FM - KXLU. Pete's program exposes underground artists in LA (and other cities) and gives them an FM platform to showcase their music. It's always an honor to be on Pete' show but this one was a bit special because it also included two of my favorite music selectors / producers and friends - Justin Paul (Los Angeles) and Davidson Ospina (Philadelphia). @justinpaul - @davidson-ospina

The mix here was my contribution to the program. The version you get to hear here is the longer complete version of my mix as we each had an hour of the 3 hour program (it was edited for the show).

Next week I will return with a best of 2023 where I will play my favorite cuts from each of the shows from the past year. That is a big task as there was about 50 episodes in 2023. I'm off from work this week so I should be able to get it done by the Friday. I have to because the weekend after next (January 6th, 2024) I'm off to Seattle to play with my good friend and regular of the show Ajax (@ajax-6). I am excited about this gig because I am coming back to the first club I ever played at in Seattle - the legendary Monkey Loft. If you live or are going to be there on the 6th come check it out.

KXLU Los Angeles RT guest mix November 2023

Welcome to the NDYD Radio Show. Happy New Year to all the listeners!  As promised last week here is the 2023 compilation (and the first episode of 2024) of some of my favorite tracks that I played on the show during the year (this is only part 1). These are not necessarily tracks that came out last year, some go back almost 20 years, but they were all played in at least one episode of 2023. 

The method to my madness was that I picked 1 or 2 tracks from each of the episodes of 2023. This gave me a total of over 100 tracks which is the reason why I am breaking up the 2023 compilation into different parts to make it manageable.

This week is part 1 and next week or the week after I will upload part 2 which will be the rest. This has been a labor of love and I hope that if you are a regular listener you will recognize some of these favorites from the past episodes.

Next weekend I will be in Seattle to play at the famous Monkey Loft which is the reason why part 2 of this compilation might be up the week after but the plan is also to record my set at the Monkey Loft to include it as a future episode.

The NDYD Radio Show EP327 - Best of '23 Part 1

Welcome to EP-328 of the NDYD Radio Show where we take a detour to Seattle, WA for a live recording from the famous Monkey Loft - The sound of the underground in that city.

I had an absolute blast at my first gig of 2024. It wasn't my first rodeo at 'The City of Goodwill' but it was close to be one of my favorite visits this time around. It was special because the Monkey Loft was the first club that I ever played at in Seattle years ago and the heads over there sure know how to handle a dance floor. No house track was underneath their dancing. I also had the privilege to meet some fans and followers of the show that came to say hi and told me that it was the reason they were there. The def put me in the right mood for the night.

This set is dedicated to you Seattle fans - you know who you are :) I hope this brings good memories of an awesome night. Thank you to all who showed up and we will do it again for sure.

The NDYD Radio Show EP328 -  Ricardo live from The Monkey Loft Seattle - January 6, 2024

Welcome to the second part of NDYD's best of 2023. Today is holiday in the US (MLK day) and I had the day off work so I was able to record this 4 hour smix. Just like part 1 this set contains another 50 of the best tracks that were played on the show in 2023.  As I noted on the part 1, these are not necessarily tracks that came out last year, some go back more than that, but they were all played in at least one episode of 2023.

The NDYD Radio Show EP329 -  Best of '23 part 2

And we are back with a brand new episode this week of the NDYD Radio Show. No 'Best of' or live recorded set but brand new music that has all come out within the first month of this year. We are kicking off the year strong and I am looking forward to all the great new music that will take us on a trip in 2024. If these new tracks are any indication of what there is to come then I am very happy.

The NDYD Radio Show EP331

New week, new NDYD Radio episode which is a tad late - but for a good reason. As you probably heard or saw in the news that the west coast of the USA is getting plummet with rain and parts are flooded. Of all weekends I decide to go visit a friend up north without checking the weather first and got stuck there cause all the trains home to LA were canceled or delayed. I couldn't record the show since I wasn't home and when I finally returned I had to take care of all my work projects which were late. I found some time today and for something put together on the fly I think it came out pretty good and is one of my favorite so far. Tons of new underground gems that take you real Deep which is the opposite of what I am trying to do in all of this rain ha ha. If you are a regular listener of the show you probably noticed that the only series of sets that I hadn't updated yet was The Deep End. It needed a little love so here is vol. 5 of this Deep House series.

The funny thing is I wasn't planning to do a Deep End mix but a regular show instead. I was just playing some new music and promos I had received and by the end my friend, who was with me when I recorded it, said "wow-that set was really deep". I responded "it was?" and took a proper listen again and she was right. I didn't even realize I was playing so deep. After the second listen, in my mind, this was going to go right into the Deep End of the NDYD pool. So here it is - ready to dive?

The NDYD Radio Show EP334

The music of West Coast DJ, Ricardo Torres can best be described as a blend of deep, soulful house, and disco inflected with the particular sound of the west coast vibe, sultry and smooth. He plays the music that  heads love to dance to; confident that when the music flows from hands that loves the underground it can be an uplifting, groovy and sexy experience.

Ricardo has been on a quest to achieve that perfect mix ever since his first chance encounter at the turntables, in 1987 at his college radio station in Montreal, Canada. His first 12" records were from the Industrial Electronic Music of that time.  Shortly thereafter in 1988, he was first introduced to House Music. Ricardo quickly changed his direction and followed the early days of Chicago House.  He moved towards this style of music since he found it to have a new and unfamiliar energy within itself.

In 1995 Ricardo, moved to Los Angeles, a city basking in sunrays and radiating the good vibes he himself perpetuated. And here, Ricardo discovered the funky, soulfulness of the west coast sound.  Many of his early heroes such as Jay-J, Marques Wyatt, Julius Papp, Mark Farina, Miguel Migs, and others gave him the desire to gravitate towards this deeper, more soulful West Coast style.

While still a local Los Angeles DJ, Ricardo - inspired by his love for this genre-decided early on in the year 2000 to post his mixes online to share with the world. This was fairly new and innovative at the time. This act of sharing his musical vision without prejudice or limitations caused him to be sought after to play his brand of house music in cities all over the world. He continues to offer up his masterful mixes, as host of syndicated radio shows online as well as on satellite radio in the USA.

Within the recent past Ricardo joined forces with Nu Disco Your Disco out of Germany for representation and affiliation. This modern Nu Disco sound, to him, is the perfect way to bring that West COast vibe into the future and the new generation. Since NDYD has been a pioneer in bringing the Nu Disco genre to the masses in Europe he felt that they would be the perfect partner for doing the same in North America with their established brand. Hence, the syndicated NDYD Radio Show was born.  The show has been on the air for over a year now and besides Ricardo hosting and DJing it every week, some of the best talent in the industry and from all over the planet have been guest DJs and taken over the show. The loyal following keeps growing episode after episode. 

Underground music trends and styles have changed since Ricardo played his first vinyl record all those years ago but what hasn't changed is that he just loves playing music that inspires the heads to get up and dance!
