Huge thank you to @ajax-6 for taking the helm of the show on the last episode. It ain't his first NDYD rodeo so I know that the listeners are in good hands when he takes over the decks.

I'm back after taking last week off from the show cause you know, life. I should continue to take every other week off because missing one week makes me come back even stronger. I really enjoyed recording this episode as I got some new promo heat from @saltedmusic that are absolute fire including  one from the label boss Miguel Migs. Lots of sweet new deepness from artists like Tip Toes, N.W.N., Saison, James Curd, and many more.

The NDYD Radio Show  EP345 - Special Guest Mix by CHUGGIN EDITS

Last Sunday June 23rd, 2024 I had the opportunity to play at an amazing musical gathering in the heart of West Hollywood called PEX Los Angeles. PEX (The Philadelphia Experiment) is based in Philadelphia and in the summer they do a 3 day event at a boutique hotel called Hotel Ziggy in WeHo on the Sunset strip. Multiple talented DJs from all over the country keep the grooves going day and night for the whole weekend. A lot of the guests also get rooms there so they don't miss anything.

My set was scheduled for the last day which was Sunday, and I was fortunate to get PEX going for that closing day as people were getting set by the beautiful pool. It was hot (over 90F degrees), it was Sunday, and people were trying to cure their hangover from the night before so for the first hour I played some slo-mo grooves to ease everyone in.

After that first hour though I picked up the tempo and people came to the 'dance floor'. Build it and they will come, I think is the expression, and the heads sure did.

You might not be under the hot sun in Hollywood but you get to experience the same sonic treats that the people there did.

We have not left the underground club since last week and the music in the current episode is going to cement us here fosho. Banging new tracks including new fire from d3ep's  boss and founder - Grant Nelson and new fire from a Dr Packer. I even tickled the toes of Tech House in this episode but Tech House kicked me in the teeth and said 'Go back to your floor homie - don't you know I'm loco?' oh well, I tried. See if you can pick out the couple of tracks that are considered 'Tech House'.

Holy *#&%^ the show is 350 episodes old! Damn, and what better way to celebrate this magic number but showcasing as a guest someone who doesn't need an introduction to the listeners. One of the show favorites - @cloakdaggernyc

Special indeed because the show starts off with Cloak's forthcoming single "Miss You" coming out August 23rd on The Discography Lessons label (UK). If you are in NYC there will be a release party for the single at Cloak's residency at the W TSQ on the next day the 24th.

The NDYD Radio Show  EP350 - Special Guest Mix by Cloak Dagger

On Saturday August 10th, I got together with a couple of friends as we were all going out to the Venice Gets Deep underground event thrown by Deep Events in Venice Beach, CA. It was an amazing night of music curated by Marques Wyatt but it ended at 2am that night (it usually goes later) and my friends and I were not ready to call it a night. I took an executive decision and invited a small group of people to my place (I live in Venice) to continue the music flow we were all experiencing. We got to my studio, I turned on the decks, set up my recorder and started digging in the thumb drives. 3 plus hours later the music was still bumping and the sun was coming up. I love nights like these where the music gives you the energy to keep going and you just get inspired by your friends' reaction to the tracks you dig out. I'm really happy how this 'live' unexpected recording turned out with a nice variety of Edits, House, and Deep House tracks that I usually don't play out but that I love.

Hopefully this recording will give you a hint of the great vibe we were all experiencing at my place, Boiler Room style :)

The NDYD Radio Show EP357

The music of West Coast DJ, Ricardo Torres can best be described as a blend of deep, soulful house, and disco inflected with the particular sound of the west coast vibe, sultry and smooth. He plays the music that  heads love to dance to; confident that when the music flows from hands that loves the underground it can be an uplifting, groovy and sexy experience.

Ricardo has been on a quest to achieve that perfect mix ever since his first chance encounter at the turntables, in 1987 at his college radio station in Montreal, Canada. His first 12" records were from the Industrial Electronic Music of that time.  Shortly thereafter in 1988, he was first introduced to House Music. Ricardo quickly changed his direction and followed the early days of Chicago House.  He moved towards this style of music since he found it to have a new and unfamiliar energy within itself.

In 1995 Ricardo, moved to Los Angeles, a city basking in sunrays and radiating the good vibes he himself perpetuated. And here, Ricardo discovered the funky, soulfulness of the west coast sound.  Many of his early heroes such as Jay-J, Marques Wyatt, Julius Papp, Mark Farina, Miguel Migs, and others gave him the desire to gravitate towards this deeper, more soulful West Coast style.

While still a local Los Angeles DJ, Ricardo - inspired by his love for this genre-decided early on in the year 2000 to post his mixes online to share with the world. This was fairly new and innovative at the time. This act of sharing his musical vision without prejudice or limitations caused him to be sought after to play his brand of house music in cities all over the world. He continues to offer up his masterful mixes, as host of syndicated radio shows online as well as on satellite radio in the USA.

Within the recent past Ricardo joined forces with Nu Disco Your Disco out of Germany for representation and affiliation. This modern Nu Disco sound, to him, is the perfect way to bring that West COast vibe into the future and the new generation. Since NDYD has been a pioneer in bringing the Nu Disco genre to the masses in Europe he felt that they would be the perfect partner for doing the same in North America with their established brand. Hence, the syndicated NDYD Radio Show was born.  The show has been on the air for over a year now and besides Ricardo hosting and DJing it every week, some of the best talent in the industry and from all over the planet have been guest DJs and taken over the show. The loyal following keeps growing episode after episode. 

Underground music trends and styles have changed since Ricardo played his first vinyl record all those years ago but what hasn't changed is that he just loves playing music that inspires the heads to get up and dance!
