Nostalgia. One of my favourite nostalgic eras when I was just a wee 18-20 something was what I refer to as my College era clubbing phase. There I was, a young Drama Student on the south coast drenching myself in Carl Cox Essential Mixes, trekking across the South Downes to Megadog Events, fortnightly techno clubbing at my local night Geushky with like minded mates and generally crate digging for the sounds that grabbed me to spin on my shitty DLP3 Direct Drives. The salad days of venturing to my local youth club up the way with old school friends and discovering House Music and blending the genres together over a Snakebite & Black or two. The eventual big move to Brighton gave me new sounds to explore egged on by Hedonistic weekday nights out to The Zap, Beach Club, The Concorde and beach raves that could only be found if you were in the know. The era of (what my College friends dubbed me) Dj Homeboy was a good time so this weekend I'm taking it right back to my roots. I've been ripping and searching for the tracks that have been etched in my brain from way back when. Ricardo Torres, a West Coast DJ, is known for blending deep, soulful house and disco with a smooth, sultry West Coast vibe. His music is crafted for true dance music enthusiasts, delivering uplifting, groovy, and sexy experiences rooted in the underground scene.

Ricardo’s DJ journey began in 1987 at a college radio station in Montreal, Canada, where he initially spun industrial electronic music. By 1988, he was introduced to Chicago House and was captivated by its fresh energy, changing his musical direction. In 1995, he moved to Los Angeles, where the city’s sun-drenched, soulful vibe and influences from DJs like Jay-J, Marques Wyatt, Julius Papp, Mark Farina, and Miguel Migs drew him toward the deeper West Coast sound.

In 2000, Ricardo pioneered sharing his mixes online, a bold and innovative step that garnered him international recognition. This exposure led to global performances and opportunities, while he also became a syndicated radio host on satellite and online platforms.

Around 2016 Ricardo partnered with Germany’s Nu Disco Your Disco (NDYD), a leading advocate for the Nu Disco genre. Their collaboration birthed the NDYD Radio Show, which Ricardo hosts weekly, showcasing top global talent and steadily growing a loyal listener base. For Ricardo, Nu Disco offers a modern bridge for the soulful West Coast vibe to resonate with newer generations.

While underground music trends have evolved over the decades, Ricardo’s passion remains unwavering: playing music that inspires people to get up, dance, and celebrate the timeless groove of house music.
