Music world lost another extremely important pioneer, our beloved Godfather of House, Frankie Knuckles. May he rest in everlasting peace. As the world mourns his passing it's important that we celebrate the movement that he's created. From House to Electronic Dance Music we owe all the praise to Frankie Knuckles. It's icons like Frankie (The Warehouse), Larry Levan (Paradise Garage), David Mancuso (The Loft) and Nicky Siano (The Gallery) that established dance music culture during the 70's and 80's in NYC and Chicago which ultimately changed the face of nightlife across the globe.  The message was always in the music. Dancing was the key of life. What you're about to listen to is a direct reflection of these pioneers via records they loved and played with lots of Frankie Knuckles productions and remixes throughout. His music raised me. Records like "Tears" and the "Whistle Song" have never left my crates. He will be sorely missed but the music lives on. 

At No Limits the idea is to continue the legacy of good music across the board with no boundaries, the way things used to be and should remain. Note, this is a live set, crowd noise will be heard throughout. Enjoy!

The Pharcyde is celebrating the 20th Anniversary of their iconic album Labcabincalifornia by releasing a commemorative mixtape. In a collaborative effort, the #BeamMeUpSpinna mixtape is mixed by NYC’s DJ Spinna and features “Nasty Habits”, an unreleased joint from the vault that features Ralph Tresvant & Bobby Brown.  Imani & Bootie Brown also asked a group of producers to remix and add their own personal spin on a few of the Labcabincalifornia songs that you all know and love.

Dj Mike Relm re-works a mash up of “Drop”, SBBX remixes “Groupie Therapy”, Moka Only drops his version of “Y”, Ta'Raach teams up with Bootie Brown to co-produce “Devil Music, The Devils Kitchen Remix”, and The Pharcyde’s own Bootie Brown remixes “Runnin’.”

DJ SPINNA is a heavily touted presence in the international soulful house music scene. He is known for his vast accomplishments as a producer, is celebrated for his “Soul Slam” events and Stevie Wonder inspired  WONDER-Full Dj performances and subsequent collaborations.

The Pharcyde’s sophomore album “LabcabinCalifornia” was originally released on November 14th, 1995. The group enlisted a young and then unknown James Yancey aka J DILLA to produce beats, like the cult classic “Runnin.”  They also collaborated with director Spike Jonze (“Being John Malkovich” “Adaptation”) on the video for “Drop.” Labcabincalifornia has consistently and continues to reinforce their steadfast refusal to tread familiar artistic grounds.

So this week's show is a little longer to make up for it. Hot new promos that will be release soon from Fouk on House of Disco and the new Flavor Saver EP Vol 27 coming out soon on Salted Music (@saltedmusic). This has to be my favorite release from Miguel Migs' label this year. Every track on the EP is da bomb. I think I included 3 from it on this radio show. During the lockdown some of the residents / friends who live in our building in DTLA would get together at our loft from time to time where I would play music while we just hang . Of course it was a very limited number of people (only the ones that lived in the building) and even if most of us never left the building we all whore masks and kept our social distancing. It was fun to play for a small 'crowd' in the middle of the pandemic and I got to record some of those sessions that we had about every other weekend. Here is one of them where I went back to play down to mid-tempo edits like back in the days. The other sessions I recorded are all different, deep house, tech-house, etc. I will be posting those in the upcoming radio shows. So here is the first one and I hope you will dig it like our neighbors did. They are actually the ones that asked me to post them so they can have a copy of it. I'm glad to do it cause it looks like I might have turned some of them to this style of music. I'm like a drug dealer lol

Continuing with the theme from last week here is another mix that was done during the covid 19 lockdown. Again, some of our neighbors were present when I recorded these sets. Last week's mix was mainly mid tempo edits but with this one I picked up the pace with proper house. Since I'm lazy, the majority of the these tracks come from my Toolroom and Salted Music playlists. It's tracks that I get as promos from these labels and most of them are out now so make sure to look for them at your favorite digital store. Enjoy.

Ricardo Torres, a West Coast DJ, is known for blending deep, soulful house and disco with a smooth, sultry West Coast vibe. His music is crafted for true dance music enthusiasts, delivering uplifting, groovy, and sexy experiences rooted in the underground scene.

Ricardo’s DJ journey began in 1987 at a college radio station in Montreal, Canada, where he initially spun industrial electronic music. By 1988, he was introduced to Chicago House and was captivated by its fresh energy, changing his musical direction. In 1995, he moved to Los Angeles, where the city’s sun-drenched, soulful vibe and influences from DJs like Jay-J, Marques Wyatt, Julius Papp, Mark Farina, and Miguel Migs drew him toward the deeper West Coast sound.

In 2000, Ricardo pioneered sharing his mixes online, a bold and innovative step that garnered him international recognition. This exposure led to global performances and opportunities, while he also became a syndicated radio host on satellite and online platforms.

Around 2016 Ricardo partnered with Germany’s Nu Disco Your Disco (NDYD), a leading advocate for the Nu Disco genre. Their collaboration birthed the NDYD Radio Show, which Ricardo hosts weekly, showcasing top global talent and steadily growing a loyal listener base. For Ricardo, Nu Disco offers a modern bridge for the soulful West Coast vibe to resonate with newer generations.

While underground music trends have evolved over the decades, Ricardo’s passion remains unwavering: playing music that inspires people to get up, dance, and celebrate the timeless groove of house music.
