"Die Band um den Kölner Grafiker & Musiker Christian Barthold geht nicht den geraden Weg. Hier hört man jazziges, Progressiv-Elemente, Post-Rock-Tristesse und immer wieder ganz unerwartete Sounds, die dann, wie in PONYHOF, zu einem Moll-Surf-Instrumental führen, das sehr an die wunderbaren Atomic Swing erinnert. Gemeinsam mit Jörg Düpjohann (dr.), Markus Blatzheim (bs) und dem Pianisten Christoph Uhlhaas ist ein sehr eigenwilliges Album gelungen, das neben der Musik auch für sein Verpackungsdesign die absolute Höchstwertung bekommt."

IOSIS is ritual in the shape of gnarled dronescapes, wrestled from the back of a hardware beast made of diverse synthesizers, tangled patch cables and contact microphones snaked through space-making delay and reverb units. Sometimes verging on the edge of breaking noise, sometimes swimming in lush beauty, witnessing IOSIS is a fully enveloping ceremonial experience imbued with transmutational significance. John C.S. Keston is an award winning composer of electronic, experimental, and instrumental music. His work embraces the chaotic ambiguities of environmental and sensorial influences providing context within unpredictable and everyday events. His unconventional compositions convey a spirit of discovery and exploration through the use of graphic scores, chance, generative techniques, analog & digital synthesis, sound design, signal processing, and acoustic piano.

SOUND / SIMULACRA
John Keston and Cody McKinney present: Sound / Simulacra: A monthly series which explores musical improvisation as a “faithful and intentionally distorted” representational process. Sound / Simulacra will bring together some of the Twin Cities most unique voices to “recreate, distort, and create the hyperreal”.

IOSIS with John Keston Live at Jazz Central Studios

1. The band realises some musical ideas of an eccentric composer Ned Hoper.
4. There are several full LPs and few stand-alone singles.
7. We have closed chamber concerts instead of rehearsals.
9. The band is in continual studio work with music, sound effects for movies, experiments etc.
14. Video art is an important component of NH’s performances. Footages are prepared but work with music only.
16. Musicians are indeed show on a stage in the marked lab coats.
20. Once – we don’t know how – some of our drafts was spilled to the web. So we have two bootleg:  ”Lives & Rares”  and  ”Etudes Op#27″
23. Critics give different names to our stile but all of them says NH’s music creates define visual associations.
24. Alongside with “uncommon” instruments (ribbon synth, theremin, prepered piano etc) you can hear pretty “common” some, such as tympani, strings, monks chorus and opera singer.
