Dublin DJ/producer Sputnik One shares the second offering from his recently launched label N-Face - the follow up to 2022’s debut release Supa Natural/Grafters ft. Belfast-based rapper EMBY which was supported by Ben UFO, CCL, DJ Voices and more.

The club-destroying compilation spans 10 tracks, featuring bubbling bass and glitchy breaks through cheeky wafters to fresh and exciting techno and dancefloor mutations from a total of 11 artists and groups from three continents. Rising talents Dual Monitor, Glimmerman, LWS & No Sir join label head Sputnik One & K-Wata, as well as fresh faces St. Amp, Outl1er, DJ Gerard, Puncta and Young Muscle. N-Face 002 V/A showcases the Dublin artist’s strong vision and A&R hand and celebrates some of the most talented underground heads about. Staying in line with the spirit of collaboration set out in N-Face 001, Sputnik One teams up with K-Wata for their contribution to the compilation, with ‘Back Innit’ a chugging drama infused percussive roller.

The artwork, designed by Harvey Wise gathers historical objects from disparate corners of the world, using the ‘Hook / Crook’ monogram to tie everything together thematically. Hot on the heels of the labels’ first release N-Face invites a dynamic group of artists to explore the vast spectrum of percussive electronics in forward facing dance music.

Bringing together artists from different corners of the genre spectrum for one-off releases and unexpected collaborations, N-Face focuses on pairing cutting-edge sonics with equally specific visual direction, working with a new artist for each subsequent release's design.

Lacuna delves into deeper and darker territory with another split EP from two upcoming producers carving out their own niche in the bass music landscape. Following 2023 releases on Left, Right & Centre and Nostro Hood System respectively, Small Crab and Elpac join forces on Lacuna to deliver four no-nonsense, club-ready, low-end tracks.

Dublin-based Small Crab opens the dialogue with the ferocious ‘Venom’, a hard-hitting 100 bpm rhythm which builds patiently before unleashing an infectious frenzy. She further develops her low-end explorations with ‘Snake Bite’, which rides an electrifying drum beat with a stinging impact.

Elpac responds with distinctive Bristolian experimentation, firstly with ‘Patrolling’ which hinges along a cavernous and sparse beat, intertwined with clever vocal sampling. He then completes the split EP with ‘SL25 (Crank Mix)’, which journeys along sirens and trumpets before slipping into a dancehall infused madness.

Site-██, deep snow and high-altitude mountainous conditions. “Maul Rheo” repair/destruction cycle is internalised but maintaining a safe distance was necessary to avoid triggering its violent programming.

“Maul Rheo” appears to possess an amorphous body capable of self-repair and self-modification. Discovered in the ███████ Mountains. The entity exhibits a perpetual cycle of self-inflicted violence, leading to continuous destruction and reconstruction of its form. This cycle is believed to be a result of its original programming, its behavior suggests a programmed directive, compelling Maul Rheo to engage in intuitive violent behaviors. Future research should endeavor to trace a genealogy of violence.

Body is composed of an unknown metallic alloy, showing properties of both high durability and malleability. During its self-destructive episodes, body parts can be observed to tear, split, and then reform. The process is accompanied by the expulsion of a black oil onto the white snow. This substance quickly solidifies in the ice.

Encounter with Ziyiz:

An interaction between Ziyiz was recorded on ██/██/████. Ziyiz attempted communication with “Maul Rheo” using a series of synthesized electromagnetic propagations. This interaction led to a temporary cessation of “Maul Rheo’s” violent behavior, but it’s internal directives could not be dissuaded. Further research into the effects of acoustic frequencies and speculative technologies on programming is recommended.

Relentless raver and Rinse France resident RONI launched her first imprint Nehza Records in 2021.

Naming the label after the animated film ‘Nezha Conquers The Dragon King’ by Wang Shuchen published in 1979, the mythical tale resonates with RONI on both personal and artistic levels. 

With an attitude that questions social constructs and inflated authority, RONI’s vision for Nehza Records poses questions about our natural environment through the medium of sound. 

Combining elements of sound with the fantastical flourishes of Suchen’s film, Nehza Records is about raising awareness of our connexion to nature and how we need to protect the Earth.
