Submarine Walk

NAJIB ن ج ي ب is a Moroccan Producer and DJ based in Brussels. He is interested in genres that bring "chaos" by using a variety of rhythms permeating different cultures and by confronting them with each other. In his music he aims to formate a stability in chaos and to create a dystopian vision of his world allowing a continuous questioning of himself. Glitch, multi-textured sounds and deconstructed music elements are always present in his compositions.

Labours of Melerito part. 1 is the first mix of a challenge I will push myself to do every month during 2023.

Opening the series I started with a super ambitious mix that goes from Japanese punk from the 70,s to ambient, noise, flamenco, and many other genres.

This is a study that I do to preserve moments through music, is also some kind of workout to fight against the rust but I also hope you enjoy the ride and stay awake for the 11 more I wish I manage to do this year.

Here is the third chapter of the series.

This time I focused on one of my personal favorite stylistic decisions in music; distortion, noise, and broken sounds.

Whether using old equipment, tape recordings, or simply as a personal artistic direction, I have always been fascinated by this type of rusty sound that besides sounding "wrong" for some people, to me it adds a component that makes music feels more organic and real in some way.

This mix is not governed by any certain genre and blends songs with a common denominator, just dirt, and broken sounds.

Not for soft ears.

It´s been a long time since I haven't recorded any party mix but this one is special so I decided to add it to the series.
This mix was played during the 2nd Sleikur party (main and only queer club party in Reykjavik) and I wanted to put my focus on Vogue, Ballroom, Raptor House, Jersey club, and other kinds of genres predominant in the underground club queer scene.
Really fast blends, funny edits, and music to slay.

The 5th chapter; it was time to get serious.
I wanted to make this set for a long time, one set with a clear intention to be used as a tool.
The idea was to curate ambient songs that don't stimulate me almost at all, just music that helps me to create a wall of sound while I'm using my headphones and I want to read or sleep; this idea comes to my mind a lot of times while I'm on a plane.
Consider this as a shield, a wall, and also a pillow where you can just take a nap, read something, meditate, or whatever situation where you just want to silence the world and stay calm.

“Plastiglomerate” takes you on an imaginative nocturnal journey into potential mutant futures.

Plastiglomerates are rare minerals formed in the deep surface of the ocean by combining plastics with other sediments such as fragments of basaltic lava, sand, shells, wood, and coral. This fusion results in a hybrid of plastic and rock. Despite our collective notion of minerals, plastiglomerates are only about ten years old and are produced by human activity. Some research suggests that they may become a permanent fixture in the Earth’s
geological record. This means that as humans, we are the first species in the planet’s history to modify its geological composition

Beyond moral interpretations, this event seems mind-blowing to me as a scientific fact. Inspired by the existence of these hyper-objects, I aimed to create a speculative soundscape that combines tech and artifact sounds with flows of watery, organic, naturebased sounds, suggesting the breakdown of clear distinctions between organism and technology.

As Rick Rubin said, Nature transcends our tendencies to label and classify, to reduce and limit. The natural world is unfathomably richer, more interwoven, and complicated than we are taught, and much more mysterious and beautiful
