It's an honour to present the first edition of the Space Cast mix series by good friend and wonderful human, Eric aka Lava Brain (@lava-brain). Eric is an exceptionally talented dj, producer and live visual artist. This year he released his debut single on his Bandcamp featuring two very distinct tracks, one of them a 19 minute long ambient exploration. Eric has created a stunning mix simultaneously capturing a sense of lightness and depth which has you drifting through subtle shifts in consciousness.

'I really love the concept for this mix series, diving into and appreciating the spaces between spaces, as well as the reflexive nature of the creation of art. Slowing down and getting lost in the spaciousness of music has been a great source of escape and solace for me this year. Spending less time listening to club-focused music has also inspired me to spend more time reflecting in nature and experimenting with some production of my own, using organic field recordings as a catalyst. Thanks to Space Cast Melbourne for allowing me to share this side of my music collection, putting together this mix felt like a meditative experience for me.'

Magical delights await you in the ‘Garden Of 3Den’, as our two protagonists, BLOND:ISH and Rowee, conspire on some blissful and esoteric musical vibes for ABRACADABRA. In its original mix, soft marimba’s glide over a sensual beat, as memories are consolidated and made, whilst a ‘Meditation Mix’ administers maximum relaxation sounds for the mind and body.

A Little Universe

The nights are getting cold and the fog is closing in. It's around this time of year that we tend to engulf ourselves in the mist of ambient soundscapes and eerie music which reflects the spirit of the season. 

Jean-Emmanuel Rosnet is a musician and creative based in the suburbs of Lyon, for many years he has run a festival called Mirage which is dedicated to new forms of media art and expression. As a musician he creates beautiful, delicate mirages himself - ambient soundtracks and ethereal music which is highly immersive and magical. 

His most recent cassette, "Stories concerning the heroes and rituals", was self released and caught our attention with it's intricate poignancy and dream like ambience. 

We felt that he would be perfect to contribute to our Monday mix series and so he does...

Our guest mix is from the Dutch composer Rutger Hodemaekers to celebrate the release of his new album The Age of Oddities which came out on FatCat's 130701 imprint on March 5, 2021.  Hodemaekers takes you on a cinematic journey all his own, perfect for long walks in nature or sitting in front of a fire. We also catch up with Nils Frahm for an interview to talk about his new live album Tripping With Nils Frahm, which was edited and perfected from multiple performances in his home town of Berlin at the Funkhaus, which is also the home to his recording studio. Along with the interview, there will be a few selections from the new album.
