James Paddock Music

This is a tribute to the genius of Johann Sebastian Bach. James created this midi file in Cakewalk Express and I imported it into Reason 7.1 and allocated voices from the Ensoniq ESQ-1 Reboot FREE Reason Refill. I also added the electronic drums (which are all generated by ESQ-1 sounds).

It is a showcase of both James's compositional skills and the range of sounds from the Ensoniq ESQ-1 Reboot FREE Reason Refill. Enjoy!

Miles at the End

This EP was produced throughout the second semester of my third year at the WA Academy of Performing Arts, as part of my "Sound Production" unit. With the support of lecturer Lee Buddle, and that of family and friends, I was able to put this instrumental EP together in a relatively short span of time, as well as complete the mixing and mastering more or less on my own. Relatively happy with the result.

James Paddock - Adrenaline in the blood (Reav remix)

This is a track I am in the process of mixing and producing for my son, James Paddock. It is part of the Harmony Original Soundtrack (OST) James created in midi format for a free add-on to the popular game Doom by ID Software. There are 13 tracks altogether and this is the final track on the album.

This is a pre-approved version. It was originally created in Cakewalk Express as a midi file by James. I have taken the midi file and processed it in Reaper, converted to audio and then had additional elements such as the Messiah Synth and the ME-80 by Gunnar Ekornas and drums using the "Fluid" soundfont by Frank Wen added in Acoustica's Mixcraft Pro Studio 6 and Cockos Incorporated's Reaper. 

I have used Miroslav Philharmonik refill for Reason by Sonic Reality distributed by esoundz

Here's all 30 of the pre-programmed patterns from the Yamaha DD-5 Drum Machine. Recorded into a Focusrite Saffire USB 6 and Reason 6.5.2 with a single guitar lead.

A popular thing to do with these nowadays is "circuit bending" - bolting on additional electronic gubbins to the old unit to make the original sounds distorted. 

This one is as it would have been when new - with no circuit bending whatsoever.

Yamaha DD-5 Demo Patterns

A collaboration between myself and Tom Pritchard. All synths and the main song structure are by Tom Pritchard, with additional arrangement, drums & percussion, guitars, vocals and atmosphere by myself.

I'd been put off of collaborations for a while as I always ended up getting stalled when working on something, either through lethargy or just not feeling where the idea was going. I figured it was about time I had another crack at it, and last year asked Tom if he'd be interested in working on something together. He already had a rough song idea to work with, so he sent that over and I did my thing with it and we bounced it back and forth a few times until we ended up with this.

The "Red Planet Theme" has been graciously donated by James Paddock to the Scanned Synth Pro 2 (SSP2) Reason Refill Project as a demo track using ten instances of SSP2.

All the synthesizer sounds you hear on this version (excluding the drums) are those sampled from SSP2 for the Reason Refill.

This version of Red Planet Theme uses multisamples from the Scanned Synth Pro 2 (SSP2) Reason Refill and the Yamaha RX-17 Combinators I created for Reason 6.5. 

It started life as a humble midi file, created in Cakewalk Express. I imported it into Reason 6.5 and allocated suitable sounds to each track from the Scanned Synth Pro 2 Refill.

I also added drum sounds from my resampled Yamaha RX-17 combinator pack and some Yamaha Dtxplorer (re)samples too.
 
The Scanned Synth Pro 2 Refill contains 30 multisampled patches including distinctive and unique synth pads, leads and basses.

The Scanned Synth Pro 2 (VST) synth was developed by John Proctor and is copyright of Humanoid Sound Systems Ltd.

Note the VST Version available from Humanoid Sound Systems will only work with Reason via Rewire (i.e. Where you have two host programs - Reason and another Digital Audio Workstation open at once), as Reason does not currently "talk directly" to VST instruments. if you want to use Scanned Synth with Reason then you are better off downloading and using the free Reason Refill. The VST version will work directly with other Digital Audio Workstations such as Reaper and Mixcraft and you will have access to a lot more presets if you buy it from Humanoid Sound Systems.
