September Mix

One of the aspects that made Dekmantel Festival so memorable that didn't make it into our subsequent review was the numerous conversations with performers at the festival in shared transit back to our hotel. Amidst conversations on Oslo taxi drivers with Prins Thomas and Gerd Janson and an exchange with Mount Kimbie's lighting engineer which rarely stayed on one subject for more than a minute, we were lucky enough to share some time with Mick Wills. Fresh from playing the Boiler Room stage, the Stuttgart-based DJ and producer revealed himself to be one of the nicest selectors currently operating and was kind enough to place in our hands the latest edition of his long-running Demo Mix series.

Back in London, with the benefit of a clear head we realised how well suited to our tastes this CD was, and indeed the Demo Mix series as a whole, and some polite enquiries regarding Wills interest in contributing to our podcast series was made. Instead of a studio mix, Wills offered up the chance to publish a live recording made during one of his DJ sets on the US West Coast earlier this summer. Clocking in at over 100 minutes, the performance at California festival Sunset Campout captures Wills in his element in a manner that a living room mix could not and it's easy to see why he's compared to the likes of Traxx and Ron Morelli in terms of fearless selecting.

Speaking to Richard Brophy for a Separate Mind column published earlier this year, Wills freely admitted it's taken some time for him to achieve this status. "With pleasure also comes pain - It took me almost 25 years to become the DJ that I am. There is so much good music that should be rediscovered and you have to listen to a lot of stuff until you find something that is suitable for you." That approach is fully reflected in a mix that swings through decades of music without pause, and contains a healthy dose of the producer's own self styled Cuts.

Despite being on vacation, Wills was kind enough to answer a round of accompanying questions we sent his way, revealing some personal memories of the '90s basement parties he ran in Stuttgart (and Guy Tavares' skills as a breakfast chef), the thinking behind his prolific edits and his future plans. J.S. Aurelius - God Sent Us [Brainwave mix 10/03/14]

To kick off the autumn season, Duro Label presents a masterful collaboration from St. Petersburg’s Radial Gaze and Munich’s Dominik Marz. Together, they present the "We Can Feel It" EP, a three-track odyssey that merges mesmerizing global influences with a propulsive, dancefloor-ready spirit.

Known for his genre-bending and geographically diverse sound, Radial Gaze brings his unique vision to the EP. He’s previously left his mark on esteemed labels like TAU, Feines Tier, and Hard Fist. Meanwhile, Dominik Marz, returns to Duro after a string of highly-praised releases on Innervisions, Exit Strategy, and Belters. Together, they create a sonic fusion that is both an injection of fresh energy and a testament to their combined artistry. 

The journey begins with the title track, "We Can Feel It", a secret weapon for the dancefloor. It’s an energetic cut driven by a solid drum foundation, where a schizophrenic melodic line dances wildly over a comforting piano, creating an exhilarating push-and-pull of pure euphoria. 

Next, "Simple As You" takes the EP into more trancer territories. A booming bassline and mantric synthesizers create a sense of vast space, as chopped-up vocals and acidic synths shimmer in the distance. 

The release concludes with "Moonface", a beautiful, melancholic, and energetic track. Melted melodies and ghostly synthesizers float over a solid beat that constantly pushes you forward. It’s a hypnotic and evocative cut that perfectly balances emotional depth with a relentless forward momentum.

Berlin-based synth-wave band Dina Summer released their highly anticipated second album 'Girls Gang' earlier this year via Iptamenos Discos. The band which is formed by Kalipo (also known for his
work with electro-punk band Frittenbude) and dark disco DJ/producer duo Local Suicide first made waves in the scene with their 2021 EP ‚Who Am I‘ before releasing their critically acclaimed 2022 debut
album ‚Rimini‘ and 2024 EP ‘Hide & Seek’.
The new album is a versatile collection of 11 tracks that delve into themes such as empowerment, outsiderhood, impermanence, nostalgia, and relationships. While their debut album was characterized by its club-centric sound, drawing from italo disco and '90s electro influences, this new
release explores a richer palette of new wave, post punk, and synth pop. The sophomore longplayer is more song-oriented, often featuring real bass and guitar, and showcases a more vocal-driven
performance from frontwoman Dina, incorporating more singing alongside her trademark spoken words.
Yet, it retains the same catchy melodies Dina Summer is known for, offering both indie pop hymns and a few undeniable club anthems.

Turbo Recordings is proud to present the revival of German techno giant Gregor Tresher’s Sniper Mode alias with the Riot Gear LP. We have been promised that this release will usher in a Golden Age of Electro in which we will serve at the right hand of the Lord for a starting annual salary of €43,000. Not bad.

Riot Gear showcases Tresher’s established production genius over 11 cuts of S-tier electro marked by menace, depth, and sharp melodic hooks. Lead single “Blinded by the Dark” is a collaboration with Dave Clarke, the most respected man in electro and perhaps just in general, and features the most punishing drop in recent memory. The album also includes standout vocal contributions from Detroit techno pioneer Jay Denham (“Sanctuary of Vices”), Miami Bass kingpin Exzakt (“Echoes From a Wasted Land”), dance-world enigma Kira (“Phantom Pain”), and Turbo favorite Perel (“Modesty Is a Virtue”). We would argue that this album represents a landmark achievement in the genre, which you have to admit would reflect pretty well on us as a label. 

It is not every day that Turbo Recordings embraces the responsibility of husbanding a full-album release, and you should know that it comes as a cost. The additional listening time, track title typing, and intensive download/upload workload have pushed our dedicated staff of 90 to its breaking point. We have a lot going on over here.

Echoes From A Wasted Land (feat. Exzakt)

Argentinian talent Cosmosolar makes a vibrant return to the Espacio Cielo imprint with his “El Rarito” EP, a two-original offering that masterfully walks the line between the shadowy allure of Dark Disco and the rhythmic pulse of Indie Dance. Both the title track and "Rotorhead" are expertly crafted, built on a foundation of compelling percussion and polished, high-quality production that commands attention on the dance floor. The package is further elevated with impressive reworks from Spanish veterans CYCLE and the ever-innovative Calystarr.

For his interpretation of "Rotorhead," Calystarr expertly pivots the original's mood, trading some of its brooding intensity for a radiant, upbeat energy. He injects the track with a potent dose of early 2000s electronic flair, characterised by a shimmering, melodic lead synth that arcs euphorically over a relentless, driving bassline. The rhythm section is tightened into a more direct, four-to-the-floor attack, creating an irresistible momentum that feels both nostalgic and fresh. This remix doesn’t just rework the elements; it reimagines the entire emotional landscape of the track, transforming it into a peak-time anthem brimming with optimistic vitality and pure dance-floor appeal.

Hey there!! I'm Laion, 99% producer and 1% DJ - for very special occasions mostly! I've actually been a DJ way before producing any kind of music, and learnt the ropes directly on vinyl, in a very different register though - my first love was with reggae! Production came quite a bit later, first with thePhilosophica, with whom we had our first encounter with Sinchi Collective for a couple of releases. We also released on labels  like of AEON and Melopee Records, besides a season on Rotterdam-based Operator radio. In 2023, I started my solo project, aiming for the fun of the dance floor and the catchy (cheesy?) melodies. And only this way could I release an EP fully dedicated to my girlfriend's dog. Onamiel was the birth of the cycle, and was ruled by
youth and the predominance of hope in hard times,
kindness and solidarity, but also the vagaries of the
early age.

How did the meaning of the tarot card inspire the journey of this mix?

What spoke to me most about Spring – Onamiel is the sense of new life, fresh beginnings, optimism, and positivity. As a brand new father, I immediately thought of my daughter — how joy can start with something as light and simple as a smile, and how playfulness and learning naturally go hand in hand. With that in mind, I built this mix around tracks that celebrate our playful and joyful sides, bring moments of comfort and feel-good energy, and carry a hopeful sense of what’s still to come.
