A recent recording of a mix i worked on during those lost summers but never recorded. The mix contains a number of tracks i played over that period with extra music added in as the mix evolved.
All the tracks are firm favourites of mine by a number of music heroes and influences (particularly Sean Johnston, Andrew Weatherall and the ALFOS community) that never leave the box. The mix turned out so well it deserved to be recorded and listened too. So here you are. Enjoy. x

Super FU are back with the first single from their forthcoming long player 'Physical Sounds', featuring some heavyweight remixes to get things moving.
 
The original is a perfect blend of disco, funk, pop, and acid house. Rock-solid beats, analogue bass, searing strings, and all kinds of synth action blend seamlessly with live instrumentation. Paul Withy and Sarah Lazenby trade melodies as the chorus swoops for a mid-tempo end-of-nighter.

The Dub strips out the pop and instrumentation but ups the psychedelics. Deep, trippy and electronic, it takes a hypnotic journey into a world of dub and balearica.

Next up, Craig Bratley brings the pianos front and centre, working the riff that comes off like Marshall Jefferson on downers. The vocals repeat as the track builds to chug and weave to the acid; cue smoke, strobe and dancefloor mayhem.
   
Finally, Leo Zero dubs the disco and rolls with the funk. Once again, the song shows it's strength is as it blends with the piano for nu-disco heaven!

These are more than plain re-edits.

1. Road 2 Nowhere, originally by one of the best bands in the history of recorded music, was conceived to bring a message of healing to a dance floor full of people who are trying to work things out.

2. The re-edit of Obsession takes a simpler approach—using the original tracks, adding a bit of 303, and stripping away much of the cheese to create a certified dance floor monster.

3. The Dreamer is a lesser-known 80s track and a personal favorite of Troels Yuri. He envisioned an updated, dubbier version of the original, building it around the hook with swirling synths and spacey echoes bouncing between the ears.

All of these re-edits and remixes were made with nothing but love and respect for the original compositions. We hope you enjoy them.

Paper has been pushing all things deep house and disco from the furthest reaches of the world via the good old North of England since the early Nineties.

The label has already featured a new series of EP's showcasing the best new dance music and future funk, house and disco from the world's finest producers.

We kicked off in 1994, leading the upsurge in popularity of UK house music within an underground scene previously dominated by a soundtrack from US cities like Chicago, Detroit and New York. Enhanced by a strong visual identity, as well as impeccable musical quality control PAPER was, and is one of the world’s most treasured record companies.

It continues to be funk-fuelled and bottom heavy!

tici taci - bringing you electric funk rekkids at tempos below 120 bpm. No pre-packed freeze dried loops here, all tracks have live instruments well to the fore, from funky wah-wah guitars and deep chunky bass to temperamental analogue synthesisers and live percussion.

Now 2 years later (July 2015) we're at 23 releases from a range of artists and remixers, with one release scheduled each month.


Duncan Gray (biog) : Perhaps best known as one half of the Sons of Slough along with Ian Weatherall - see discogs entry for details of releases. The Sons were a formidable Live act (see You tube) playing regularly across the UK. DG's own releases also gained some popularity, starting with cuts for Scatological (1996) Blue Black, Whole9Yards, SaltHill, through to Aquamelon (2009). Since returning to music production in 2013 he has released tracks on NEIN, Eskimo, Blindetonation, Play Pal, Rock to The Beat, plus Andrew Weatherall's vinyl only Birdscarer label. He has played guitar on half a dozen AW remixes.

Yes, I do want to hear new tracks. I am always interested in music which features REAL INSTRUMENTS - or electronic originality. I'm getting fussy these days...please email files to the email address above. (don't just send a soundcloud link please) If you don't know what the sound of this label is like, don't bother sending me stuff. I get quite a few demos with a note saying "I love the sound of your label" from producers who have clearly never listened to any of our releases.

PLEASE NOTE : 2020 release schedule now full, but I can always make room for something spectacular, or a really cool remix...
