Deadbeat Girl, or Val Olson, is a 22-year-old indie-rock alternative singer-songwriter based in New York City. Growing up in South Florida fueled Deadbeat Girl to become the representation they needed growing up.
Promoting a fearless message of unconditional acceptance and authenticity through their music, Deadbeat Girl makes listeners feel seen. Val's sound is inspired by the grungy soundtrack of their childhood; fans hear the intricacies of Death Cab for Cutie mixed with the angst of Garbage and the heart of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

With the release of their debut EP, 'What Will It Take?' in 2023, Deadbeat Girl entered the scene with a sincere exploration of self. Since this launch and an impressive world tour, their music has evolved to transcend genre rigidity and provide a unique take on the alternative sound.

Deadbeat Girl returns December 5, 2025, with
'Self-Destructor,' a poignant project with the sentiment of their previous works against the backdrop of an expanded soundscape.

Atwood Magazine stressed that "Deadbeat Girl demands our undivided attention," while The Line of Best Fit commented that "They've got the world in their hands."  I'm a composer, pianist and music-teacher.
 
Based on the piano, my music contains a wide range of different styles and genres:
 contemporaryclassical , orchestral, filmmusic, electronicambient, urbanelectro, chillout, jazz/fusion , avantgarde,  free improvisation , etc. I have written music for bands,  theatre, ballet, art-videos, films and features. I am available for original scoring of films, television productions and art-videos.
