In late 2021, I happened to witness an asteroid falling and breaking up in the Gobi desert in Urad Rear Banner, Inner Mongolia.

Since there was no proper equipment to record the whole process during the observation, I could only reconstruct the fall of the asteroid through memories and translate it into soundscape.

Around 400, the lore of the “Shadow Cave,” allegedly located 
in the region of Nagarahāra (west of present-day Jalalabad, Afghanistan), was circulating in China. The interior wall of the hillside grotto was said to display a “[Śākyamuni] Buddha’s shadow image” 佛影 or reﬂection, visible from a distance and invisible upon closer look.

Boundless is the Great Image, 
Its principle and mystery remains ineﬀable. 
[Buddha’s] body and spirit have merged into evolving nature,
His shadow cast, his body gone. 
His lingering light brightens the layered peaks, 
Illuminating the hillside pavilion. 
Residing in obscurity, the image does not dim.
