The next time you have some friends over for dinner and they’re asking: “Hey, what’s this great sound playing? Let’s go out and party!”, in many places the answer probably is: “That’s the new one by Paskal & Urban Absolutes”. The blank faces of your circle of friends can be encountered best with: “It’s those two guys that were signed by Alex Barck for Sonar Kollektiv about two years ago. They are resident DJs at their label nights by now. And even though one of them, Alexander, lives in Berlin and the other one, Adrian lives in Dusseldorf both make music together. They fly and drive back and forth and that’s how this fabulous album came into being.” Then you may want to rewind the record to it’s beginning and play it from scratch.

The opening track “Take The Fall” indicates nicely which direction the journey with Paskal & Urban Absolutes will take: The sugar sweet, soothing voice of Pete Josef from Bristol (one half of The White Lamp) bids you welcome in a very charming way and the production implies lasciviously that we're standing on the stairway to clubland. Already with the next track “Here Again” we are in the middle of the eye of the storm. Paul Randolph (the official singer of the Jazzanova live band) purifies a true dancefloor banger, that – and this is the big stunt – also works just as well at home. 

For “White Walls” and “Flieg Los” Alexa Voss of Neve Naive wrote some super catchy lyrics and lends her vocals to the two poppiest songs of the whole album. An album which is rich in pop appeal but never concealing its strong affinity for dance music – as in house, techno and even boogie. 

Take for instance “Hold Your Head Up” (featuring Kasar), a mysterious hybrid best described imagining the Pet Shop Boys doing deep house together with Hot Chip. 
Or “The Way”, where we are delighted by the tonsils of Desney Bailey and an arrangement so eager for the bassline that it evokes nothing but smiling faces and the urge to shake your body. Catchiness, positivism and euphoria (the name of one track by the way) – these are the catchphrases that come to mind when listening to this truly mesmerizing debut by one of the most promising new acts in a scene not to be defined by any genre. 










When second-last track, “Melancholia”, kicks in it's like the end of the best holidays of your life. A perfect Balearic bliss with memories of sitting at the sea, listening to a distant guitar and waving goodbye to a setting golden sun. So long, my friends. 

This album will impress you and your future guests with awe for months to come. Rest assured.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve felt there was something truly mysterious about this world, and always wanted to find out just what that is. I think I may have found out some of it, but I also think I’ve only just scratched the surface. That’s kind of what this album is about. Until recently it had always seemed to me as if everything around me was so out of context, nonsensical, random. Finally I am beginning to understand that everything is connected, and I’d really like to keep exploring that, so here is something in context.

Depuis toujours, j’ai senti qu’il y avait quelque chose de vraiment mystérieux à propos de ce monde, et j’ai toujours voulu découvrir ce que c’était. Je crois en avoir découvert une partie, mais je pense aussi que je n’ai fait qu’égratigner la surface. C’est un peu l’idée de cet album. Jusqu’à récemment, il m’a toujours semblé que tout autour de moi était hors de contexte, insensé, aléatoire. Finalement je commence à comprendre que tout est connecté, et je voudrais vraiment continuer à explorer tout ça, voici donc quelque chose dans son contexte.

After dominating the cusp of 2014, the mammoth collaboration of ‘Arcadia’ from Hardwell and Joey Dale, finally receives its long-awaited release this July.

#1 DJ in the world Hardwell, understands how to nurture a talent when he sees one, prolific Dutch newcomer Joey Dale slotting into this piece of the puzzle, perfectly. N is the moniker of Dortmund-based German experimental guitarist Hellmut Neidhardt. June marks the release of two new records, including a second collaboration with Tzesne (ES). After a first very fruitful collaboration with Basque sound artist Txesus Garate alias TZESNE for the album CARRISSALS, released in 2011 by Denovali Records, the artistic vital necessity to exchange and work together carried on. In contradistinction to their collaborational debut Carrissals, where warm and dark qualities of drone interweaved – blended with Tzesne’s distinctive field recordings – they left the bright nature of that imaginary sundried place in Spain behind to take a leap into the harsh environment of the post-industrial landscape, being the inspiration of their upcoming release named THE BELT. Both artists share the interest of reflecting the conditions of a chosen location. Usually a an existing place gives inspiration for N’s sound research as distinguished from Tzesne, who collects field recordings from a wider area and manipulates them in the phase of post-production to a rather diffuse imprint. Way more heavy and dark is the impression, which THE BELT causes, right after giving a listen to its first minutes. The smell of bygone plants is synaesthetically floating within the soundscape, though trails to the dawn of a new era are roughly outlined. The four-track album features the tracks “Weaving A Wall”, “Beton”, “Bold Backwards” and “IkKky”. Limited to 100 LPs.

Accompanying the collaborational release with Tzesne, N recorded a one track solo record named N(31) “OIE KIRR“. Following the approach of his previously solo album GOOR, N has captured again his current live set. N(31) “OIE KIRR“ is a 45 minute track, only interrupted by the need to flip the record. Almost detached from its tonal origin created with guitar and amp, a deeply dark rumble initiates the track, followed by slowly accumulating captivating sounds, drifting into one another to finally gush forth to sea-like melodic drones. While the track wanders ethereal through different kinds of state, it more and more draws the listener in. After around half of the track the dense grim atmosphere clears up, offering an invitation to take a rest in the sun spread doldrums… before the storm breaks loose... The uninhabited islands of (Barther)-Oie and (Great)-Kirr are the record’s eponyms. Only rising one meter above sea level, they belong to the nature reserve, located in the lagoon of Barther Bodden on the Baltic Sea coast of northeast Germany. The islands are covered by salt marshes and dissected by creeks and are well known for their species-rich nature. N(31) “OIE KIRR“ is strictly limited to 100 LPs, including a download code presenting the track as one piece.

Best known as half of post-classical / electronica duo PIANO INTERRUPTED, London based French producer Franz Kirmann goes back to his electronic roots with “Meridians”, his second album, due out on Denovali Records next July.

Strongly influenced by movies (he used to be a film editor and filmmakers Wong Kar Wai, Michelangelo Antonioni, Sergio Leone or David Lynch are happily cited alongside his musical influences), Franz Kirmann has a weakness for walls of sounds and fragile melodies, which to him are the sonic equivalent of slow-motion sequences, travelling shots or landscapes in cinemascope.

While his first album – Random Access Memories (released in June 2011) - was a sort of compilation of music he'd written since 2005, “Meridians” is a more consistent proposition where tracks were put together using the same technique of assembling tiny audio snippets and samples with a strong emotional content (from a pop vocal to an orchestral extract) and transforming them beyond recognition, to then assemble them and create something new and unique.

Music was then composed from the resulting sampling manipulation, adding layers of vintage synthesizers, drum machines and granular soundscapes and resulting in a sound that could be best described as a meeting point between an 80's synthesizer soundtrack and a post-modern electronic record.

The album title "Meridians" comes from the Chinese medicine's belief in the Meridian network, a path through which the life-energy flows. The album has a strong sense of an internal journey, the music being both an invitation to introversion and reverie but also suggesting an epic voyage. The meridians could be regarded as vessels carrying emotions, souvenirs, thoughts, travelling through the body and mind, provoking a voyage through one's own life without the need for movement.

Nods to the 7th art are not only found in the sound and feel of the album but also in its titles. Each of them suggest a story or moment while remaining vague enough to let the listener fills the blanks.

AFTER 4 YEARS FINALLY REPRESSED - COMES WITH A NEW CD & LP ARTWORK. Formed for the improvisation nights Dynamo in Brest, France, this quartet made of musicians covering a wide variety of musical styles creates a sound that mixes electronic (samples, cuts, sound treatments) and acoustic elements (guitars, saxophone, trumpet). They’re playing moody ballads that sound as if they would come out from one of David Lynch's movies. Like in the films of Hollywood’s master of bizarre pieces, there is something like a dark and poisonous colour broken by red thunderlights and blue cigarette smoke. The music spawnes some odd characters and landscapes while the listener makes out some more friendly faces that loom up out of this nowhere place: the voice of Zalie Bellaccico, Milanese streets sounds, a lazy flute, or some distant breathing swim on the surface of this deep troubled waters. "Paroles de Navarre" is an invitation for opening the red curtain of this Dark Jazz cabaret made of shimmering and whirling walls. One of the best musical outputs from France of the last ten years and already a classic.
