Need a Name - Turning Too Much Into Not Enough

"...the exquisite desolation of train stations, the deep canyons of waiting, the mystery of their whooshes and winds and their huge transports bellowing by and then sinking into to the abyss. The usual clicks-and-clacks. The clip-clop of someone running up the stairs, a subway moaning in a distant tunnel, and announcements---some wafting through an ocean to get to us, others nearby.
