Ce profil SoundCloud est à la mémoire d'un groupe dont j'ai eu l'immense et précieux privilège de faire partie et de pouvoir former avec mon ami, batteur, comparse de création, et frère d'onde irremplaçable; Meaulnes Laberge.

Quorum fut un band de musique heavy-rock-progressif-fusion de la région de Québec qui a existé entre 1993 et 1995. Le trio éphémère a engendré ses quelques compositions originales qui sortent des sentiers battus, et qui n'ont jamais été endisquées.

Ces fichiers audio sont des numérisations de vieux enregistrements effectués dans leur local dans le quartier Limoilou à Québec. Les 3 comparses enregistraient leurs prestations en utilisant un seul micro placé au centre de la pièce. Le tout était capturé sur des cassettes à bandes magnétiques via des enregistreurs 4 pistes en vogue à l'époque de type "Porta-Studio" de Tascam.

Le groupe  ne s'est produit qu'une seule fois “live” dans le cadre du festival alternatif et multidisciplinaire "Plywood Stock" en 1994 à l'îlot Fleurie dans la basse-ville de Québec.

Les musiciens du groupe étaient :
- Stéphane Simard : guitare électrique - principal compositeur
- Meaulnes Laberge : batterie
- Péïré Joel Brunnemer : Basse

Quorum was a Quebec City-area heavy-rock-progressive-fusion band that existed between 1993 and 1995. The short-lived trio produced a handful of original, off-the-beaten-track compositions that have never been professionally recorded.

These audio files are digitizations of old recordings made in their premises in the Limoilou district of Quebec City. The 3 musicians recorded their performances using a single microphone placed in the center of the room. The whole thing was captured on magnetic tape cassettes using the 4-track recorders that were in vogue at the time, such as Tascam's “Porta-Studio”.

The group performed live only once, as part of the alternative, multidisciplinary “Plywood Stock” festival in 1994 at l'îlot Fleurie in Quebec City's lower town.

The band's musicians were :
- Stéphane Simard: electric guitar - principal composer
- Meaulnes Laberge: drums
- Péïré Joël Brunnemer: bass

Thanks to my two accomplices Meaulnes and Péïré for these magical moments of sharing and unique creations, which have left a lasting impression on my career as a musician and composer.

Ipecac Recordings is the brainchild of Greg Werckman (former label manager for the legendary punk label, Alternative Tentacles, employee for Mercury Records for a record 15 minutes, currently operating Pick-A-Winner Management) and Mike Patton (former frontman for Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, currently of Fantômas, Tomahawk, Peeping Tom).

Werckman and Patton had been scheming for years (in between video games) about starting their very own label, waiting for just the right moment to unleash their master plan. Ipecac Recordings is not about to make music biz history and execute a revolution (although one is surely needed) or bore you by waxing poetic about their original musical philosophies. But if we have to adhere to a "mission statement," how about the notion of being an honest, artist friendly label run on a shoe string with no outrageous promotional or production costs. This label is a home to Mike Patton's eclectic musical collaborations as well as a place where bands we admire have the freedom to release music they might not be able to, or want to, release on other labels.
