Dr Sara Shneiderman is a socio-cultural anthropologist with long-term ethnographic commitments in the Himalayas and South Asia, and emerging research engagements in British Columbia, Canada. She serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology as well as in UBC’s School of Public Policy and Global Affairs/Institute of Asian Research. Her research explores how social transformation is shaped by dynamics of citizenship and belonging (in relation to Indigenous, ethnic, religious and gender identities); cross-border mobility; conflict and political mobilization; territory and land use; development discourses and practices; and disaster aftermath and preparedness. Pratyoush Onta is Research Director at Martin Chautari, Nepal. He has written extensively about Nepali nationalism, Gurkha history, institutions, area studies, the politics of knowledge production, media and education. He is the founding editor of the journals Studies in Nepali History and Society (est. 1996) and Media Adhyayan (est. 2006, in Nepali; now renamed Samaj Adhyayan).

Sara Parker is an Associate Professor(Reader)in Development Studies at the Liverpool John Moores University in the UK. She has recently been elected chair of BNAC and is a committee member on the Britain Nepal NGO Network BRANNGO. She has conducted participatory action research in Nepal since 1994 and has worked in the areas of gender and education, ageing in Nepal and more recently as well as on the rise of fair trade in the 'Global South'. She is currently completing a British Academy-funded Global Challenges Research Fund project, Dignity Without Danger, exploring on menstrual stigma and taboos in Nepal. Sara is committed to collaborative research and also passionate about photography and travel and utilises a range of visual and participatory methods in her teaching, research and community engagement.

Dr Shyam Sharma is Associate Professor and Graduate Program Director, 
Program in Writing and Rhetoric at Stony Brook University.  He is the author of books titled Writing Support for International Graduate Students,  Rethinking Education Across Borders,  Rethinking Education Across Borders and How to Write and Publish Effectively: Writing Support Group Guideline.  He has written about how U.S. universities are facilitating the academic transition and success of international graduate students. A former lecturer at the Tribhuvan University of Nepal, he is also an expert on higher education issues about Nepal and South Asia.

Dr Ayushman Bhagat is Lecturer at Edge Hill University, UK. He completed his PhD Human Geography at the University of Durham in 2021. He is interested in multi-disciplinary approaches to research questions around the politics of ‘Human Trafficking’, ‘Modern Slavery’, and Forced Labour. Driven by a commitment to and frustration of implementing anti-slavery projects in South Asia, his research aims to highlight the voices and experiences of migrant workers in policy and scholarly discussions.

Mallika Shakya is a Senior Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at South Asian University. She is interested in interdisciplinary research methods and has been collaborating with poets and fiction- writers, filmmakers, and medical professionals, especially in her research on the borders within Southasia. Her writings have been published in leading academic journals focusing on economic anthropology and South Asian studies. Today, our conversation will follow up on her lecture titled - Narratives of Ageing, Narratives of Nation-building: Ralpha  and the Poetics of Dissident Poetry in Nepal.
