Atlanta’s “Bog Witch” and Boise’s “Mystic Tape Deck” announce the release of a new collaborative single, “Dogs of Chernobyl” to mark the anniversary of the Chernobyl Disaster.

Following the April 26, 1986 nuclear accident, the City of Pripyat was evacuated. The residents were forced to leave their pets (including domestic dogs) behind.  

Nearly 40 years after the accident, the descendants of these dogs are still living in the Exclusion Zone and a study is currently taking place. 

Scientists are sampling the DNA of the dogs. Apparently, their DNA is irregular in some interesting ways.

Wendy writes “I couldn’t sleep one night and picked-up my phone to surf when I noticed an article about the radioactive dogs of Chernobyl.  Right away it seemed like a song.”  

Wendy invited Mystic Tape Deck to collaborate with her in creating the sonic pallet for this song, the proceeds from all sales of which will be donated to the Clean Futures Fund. 

The Clean Futures Fund relies upon donations to provide medical supplies, vaccines, and food for the dogs living in the Exclusion Zone.

Creating this tune, I was mostly focused on rhytmical pattern and spiced up the 4/4 Beat  with a small amount of Funk essence.
And... do scratches work, implemented in electronics?
In modern productions these are almost extinct.

Echoes of Serenity

Kate Stanton and I were discussing music and happened to connect over that weird vibe of being in betwixt and between. After she shared her video from a local dead mall in her town that is being demolished soon, she sent me a rough piano / synth and vocal draft. I added some synthesizers and beats to enhance the dark and haunting vibe. Welcome to the "Liminal Spaces", do you want to hang out with us in the ether?
