Taking over the decks this week with two hours of unflinching groove engineering, Tresor resident DJ and Unrush boss Mareena pulls out the big guns. All in layered atmospheric finesse, streamlined rhythmic architecture and nimble transitions, Mareena's mix vouches for her impeccable mixing skillset and pristine curation. Blending hi-impact, big room-focussed wares and clever detours into further experimental-leaning territories, the German artist captures a compelling snapshot of her current musical headspace, combining the finest of hi-tech dubs with vanguard electronics and stripped-down floor destroyers bound to wreak havoc all the way from the basement to the rooftop. Not yet a big name on today’s techno map, up-and-comer Erik Jabari is a producer and DJ you shall hear a lot more from in the coming years. Championing a sound both rugged to the core and honed to razor-sharp effect, the young Berlin-based artist is on a rising trajectory his recent 6-hour B2B set with living legend DJ Pete came to confirm in the most splendid way. Building upon an unmatched maturity behind the decks associated with a sixth sense for faultless track selections, Erik has been dishing out proper memorable vinyl-only sets with unfaltering flair and focus throughout the past few months, and his inaugural mix for RYC shall cement his position as a DJ and producer to keep a close eye on. Locked in, ready for the sweep.

The term annex typically describes a structure joined to a main building, offering extra space or function. In this spirit, Tresor Records revives the ANNEX series with a new end-of-year collection that serves as an extension of the label and club’s output, adding to the creative life that has unfolded within Köpenicker Str. 70 over the past years.

Since the club moved in 2007, the Kraftwerk complex has been repurposed from its original use as a power station to fulfil multiple functions that bring people together to collaborate and congregate: Office, venue, club, exhibition space, and home to the Berlin Atonal festival, the Tresor Foundation, and the Academy of Subcultural Understanding. With the arrival of the Hard Wax record shop in 2023, the building now offers another way for the like-minded to come together and to share ideas in a common space.

ANNEX echoes the many roles of the building by fostering introduction, connection, and creation: all of the music within was created by individuals directly linked to Tresor: from club staff and residents to Hard Wax employees and long-time friends.

Across 28 tracks, the compilation unites artists from various backgrounds and generations, some collaborating for the first time, creating a moment in motion as Tresor heads into a new year.

This weeks mix is by Jess Nash hailing from Berlin with a love letter to the dancefloor. Jess uses their understanding of clubbing to intuitive balance rhythm and atmosphere.

While listening to the mix it’s easy to envision your favorite dancefloor where sound and sweat is dripping from the walls. Bodies moving as one organism. Driving, deep and dark creating a feeling of dancefloor togetherness that sucks you in, especially in the moments where the intensity slightly flows away but you know it will be back in no time. Pure and honest.

The compilation is packed with great music and has been one of my favourite releases of this year. I love the DollyTS series too! ‘’

Jess Nash ...IsBurning #181

Our friendship with Mareena began to bloom two years ago, when she joined our takeover at the Troja Kayaking Center, delivering a vinyl-only set that guided us into a glorious, sun-soaked winter morning.

Born in East Germany, her connection to electronic music was shaped early on through youth clubs and underground parties, deeply rooted in the post-communist rise of techno. After moving to Berlin in the early 2000s, she began DJing professionally, drawing from dub techno and early-2000s techno to develop a fluid, non-linear sound full of momentum, earning her a residency at the monumental Tresor Berlin in 2012.

Beyond the dancefloor, Mareena explores a more contemplative side through ambient music and her UNRUSH platform. As a producer, she creates genre-defying work driven by a love for synthesizers, with releases on Tresor Berlin, Muzan Editions, and her own UNRUSH.
