This song is one of my favorites from the new album "A Song Across Wires". I wrote this track on acoustic instruments (guitar, a six string fretted cello I had built that's like a bass or baritone equivalent of the viola de gamba, glockenspiel and others). Tydi and I worked together on the track (beats and bass) over email and eventually in person. We had a blast in the studio on this and eventually the culmination of these efforts was sent in a rough state to the country artist Plumb.

She wrote a wonderfully simple and catchy vocal. We worked with this vocal for a while and it became apparent after some time that her management and representatives had a different idea about what this song should be and what it should be for so we began looking for new singers (still bummed about this, Plumb is a great artist).

Enter Tanya Zygar. She is friends with Tydi and we sent her the track and she wrote a beautiful verse melody. I sang a multi-track chorus top line and sent it back to her. We went back and forth with iterations of lyrics and eventually settled on a nautical theme (which I love). Stem the Tide is an expression originally used to mean that a ship was sailing against the tide fast enough to make headway over the ground or to move faster than the tide in the opposite direction. 

I spend about a week after all this doing vocal editing, glitching and comping and eventually laid the vocal into the final mix.

All said and done, this song probably took in work hours the better part of 2 months. I worked on in in Logic 6.43 on a 24bit PT rig (OS9), OS X Logic 7 and 9, Live 8 and 9 and was stem printed from Logic 9. 

My favorite thing about it is the acoustic instruments playing in tandem to the analog synths, plugins and glitch elements. Very proud to share this one with you.

Biography

Danny started his music career in the late 90s as the lead singer and guitarist for the Swedish rock band "Fortuna". After the millennium Danny was part of a couple more bands including still existing band "Rocket Avenue", a stripped down acoustic band where congas, acoustic guitars and vocal harmonies is the best weapon. Around year 2000 Danny also went to Spain to work and perform as a Musical Artist for a big hotel chain mainly placed at the Mallorca islands. There he enhanced his singing skills and connection to the audience.
Playing for all different kinds of audiences, both big and small has been a big part of Danny's career as an artist. Club and Pub scenes all over Stockholm, Sweden has seen Danny's face and gigs has been lining up.
Nowadays Danny has moved more and more towards songwriting, recording and production of self-written songs. He has built his own studio in Stockholm and even have other artists making their songs come to life in the studio. 
But it's Danny's love for songwriting, singing and performing, with lyrics that are true and speak to the heart, that makes Danny a true artist.
Lately Danny have started a collaboration with professional production company "WoodHouse Production" to enhance his musical career even further. Taking it to new heights with first hit single Terrified that's is climbing the charts all over world.

The original version of the track was recorded in Marfa, TX, before the band commenced official tracking for 'Shields' in Cape Cod and New York, and was released earlier this month on 'Shields Expanded' and 'Shields B-Sides.' The collections build on their acclaimed 2012 iTunes Album of the Year with exclusive b-sides, demos, and remixes.

'Shields' was released to some of 2012's best reviews, with Pitchfork calling it "magnificently epic" and the NY Times hailing it as "enthralling." The band performed tracks from the album on Colbert, Fallon, Letterman, Leno, Austin City Limits, and Ellen, and played their biggest headlining and international festival shows to date.
