Here it is! My guest mix for Diplo and Friends that aired on BBC1/1xtra last week, completely uncut and unedited! Features tons of my favorite tracks at the moment and some forthcoming HXV tracks. With this mix I showcased not only what to expect when you see HXV dj but also put together the influences seen in our new material. The dark minimal sounds of techno mixed the 808s and experimental production found in current southern rap. The prevailing theme in this mix is the sound of real darkness, at parts its slow an immersive in textures and other parts its violent and abrupt. This is the closest thing you can get to seeing a sketch book of where HXV influences come from. Enjoy the ride.

Superheroes Anonymous 6:  Road To Red Rocks

In honor of the 1.5 million souls who were lost in the Armenian Genocide of 1915, I've prepared a 2 hour compilation showcasing some of my favorite Armenian songs & ballads. This will not make easy listening for most, as it ventures into somber hymns and percussion driven dances, as well as some informative narratives.

On a personal level, I am dedicating this mix to my great grandfather, Nishan Panosian, who fought in the Armenian resistance group known as the Fedayis. He was one of the handful of men to serve under Murad Pasha, fighting to defend his homeland and his people from the tyrannical Ottoman Empire.

To this day the Turkish government denies all claims of a Genocide having taken place, and the United States is reluctant to accept it from fear of damaging it's alliances with Turkey.

This April 24th marks the 100 year Centennial, and the last chance for these atrocities to be recognized as a genocide before the history books are closed on this matter forever.

No matter what the political outcome of this year bring. Our voices will echo throughout eternity.

"The Do Lab has always been a major source of inspiration for me in my adult life. My first transformational festival was Lightning In A Bottle 2011 and it completely changed my life. The festival had such a profound impact on me that I actually took my parents to LIB 2012 when I played The Woogie Stage for the first time. That weekend was a turning point in my life as it was the weekend I realized I had enough talent to DJ for a living if I went for it 100%. I felt so inspired that I went home, quit my job, and started my own 3 day festival and events production company, Desert Hearts, with my best friends and family.  In 2014, I was lucky enough that The Do Lab asked me to play their stage at Coachella, a super surreal experience for me since Coachella 2006 was the festival that kickstarted my intense passion for music. 

I consider myself very fortunate to have witnessed the growth of The Do Lab and Lightning In A Bottle first hand.  I can't even begin to tell you how insane it was playing LIB 2015. The first time I played The Woogie Stage in 2012, there was about 50 people on the dance floor when I started my set. I can tell you I got the biggest goosebumps of my life when I stepped up and saw over 1000 people in the crowd at The Woogie in 2012. 

I want to thank The Do Lab, Jesse Wright & Sammy Bliss from The Woogie, and everyone else who's believed in me as an artist and helped me grow. I didn't think Woogie Weekend was in the cards for me this year... and just like that I'm back to where it all started. "

Why do we tell stories?

We breathe, we eat, we sleep. We seek connection. These are our basic human needs.

But there is one more need we all share, and it centres on stories. All across the world, stories are being recounted everywhere, in every imaginable way, at any given time. For telling stories is at the very essence of what it is to be human.

The universe of stories can be broken down into seven basic plots which underlie all stories ever told. Recognising these patterns is the gateway to unravelling the universal symbolic language from which all storytelling is spun.

With The Quest, Chapter 24 returns with seven stories in sound collected from artists across the world to bring these themes to life.

NHAR (My Favorite Robot, Correspondant) is a consummate storyteller, and he opens the book with the glistening space tech of 'Navigli'. This is quickly followed up by newcomer Dan Grassler, whose superb 'Going Back' with US vocalist KnowKontrol is powerfully brooding and promises great things for the Munich-based producer.

The momentum picks up further with the standout 'Over My Head', a dark and delicious cut from two returning Chapter 24 artists, Alex Zed and Billie Fountain.

The label welcomes Teho and Machino for their inaugural releases on the imprint. Frenchman Teho (Herzblut, Parquet) serves up a double helping of delight with the skilfully crafted 'Back To The Forest' and the tense tech house of 'Drunken Leads'. Meanwhile, Machino (Desert Hearts), one of a new wave of Tijuana-based producers, showcases his unique blend of potent techno and ambient influences on 'Perdidos'.

Finally, Melodule and Van Did bring the tales to a close with 'Téou 12', a dreamy, abstract piece that showcases wonky basslines, drifting pads and engaging sound design.

They say that there are only seven basic plots but a thousand different stories.

And so, as the storyteller utters that age old, magical phrase "Once upon a time...", let yourself be carried away…

I first met @FritzCarlton at Desert Hearts around two years ago through mutual friends. We talked for a while, discussing everything from music and LA to life and existentialism. He told me he also made music, and when I hear that now I think, "Of course." Not in any sort of negative way, but rather a "This is the place to do it, for sure" one. He told me his goal was to eventually play a full set on DH's singular stage.

Now, two years later, he's doing that and much more.

Fritz Carlton and Lubelski have grown a cult like following over the years at Desert Hearts. They first popped onto our radar with their smash hit, "Doses", which has gone on to be one of the most downloaded tracks on the label. The boys followed that up with "2C-Bounce", a certified monster from our Family & Friends Vol. 1 compilation. Finally Lubelski just released his first solo EP on the label titled "Keep Going" and it's been smashing dance floors 100% of the time. One of the game's best new names, Australian producer ZEKE BEATS blends hip-hop and grime influences with his signature analogue basslines for a distinct sound that's dirty, crunchy and always futuristic. He broke through with the Meltdown EP on Terrorrhythm in 2016 (which premiered on NHQ), and since then, he's shared music across many top-respected labels like Deadbeats, Mad Decent and Buygore, where he released his recent Devastate EP. This year, he's been keeping the bass revolution kicking and gearing up for a hectic tour schedule which brings him out to California for Lightning in a Bottle 2018, for which he's prepared this mix.

The producer, Icon Collective alum turned touring DJ, has a grip of unreleased material thrown into this mix as well as some visceral new classics dominating the bass space. We do not recommend listening to this mix while operating heavy machinery; Kompany himself says it's most suited for a game of Fortnite with friends, but we would also recommend it for working out or any kind of generalized ass-kicking.
