As Obi Wan said, "If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine," and GRRL is already back to 1K followers in the short time following the account termination. Ziro - Strafe (ft. Bloom)

Making her DJing debut at New York's MoMA PS1 and her live debut at Unsound Festival, Jlin has already been placed firmly on the map as 2015's of the most exciting producers. Now she returns with her second release of the year, with her four-track Free Fall EP.

The EP sees a stealthy transition from her previous Dark Energy material. Footwork-inspired polyrhythms, cartoon and video game samples, synthesised brass stabs –  Free Fall spans it all, with EP closer "Nandi" being our pick of the bunch. Falling slightly outside the sonic realms of the tracks which precede it, "Nandi" is the product of new experimentation embarked on by Jlin. A more poised sound which isn't scared to go a little deeper, to our delights.

Free Fall drops fully on 27 November via Planet Mu.

The Sprawl - a scindicate of mutant sound carriers individually known as Logos, Mumdance and Shapednoise. Mastered and cut to vinyl by Matt Colton. Artwork by Dave Gaskarth.

William Gibson's uncannily prophetic novel Neuromancer was the 1st in a set collectively known as The Sprawl. The same term also refers to a fictional Megatropolis covering the entire Eastern US seaboard in the books, and was also the title of a staggering, standout track on Mumdance's pivotal Take Time EP.

The Sprawl is now also a noun for Logos, Mumdance and Shapednoise's new collaborative trio))), which was first conceived at Berlin's CTM15 festival, and now makes their recorded debut with EP1 of a rolling series to be archived by The Death of Rave.   

Inspired by Gibson's notions of uploaded consciousness in a post-human society, and the way in which the sensory-scrambling effects of technology have played out across our collective reverie, EP1 ventures four cuts of retina-scorching dis-torsion and chrome-burning modular synth work attempting to emulate the physical and mental impact of SimStim overload and fractious hyperreality.

Head first, Drowning In Binary rinses us thru a maze of recursive techno chambers and convulsive noise, acclimatising us to the temporal displacement in preparation for the retching, body-quake detonations and finely-contoured synthetic sensuality of From Wetware to Software to take hold. 

On the other side, their references become more explicit, and violently dynamic, as the gutted late '90s tech-step structures of Haptic Feedback glance in the direction of classic Prototype and Reinforced Recordings, before Personality Upload steadily dismantles your mental firewalls with a gyroscopic sense of weightless delirium.

Ultimately, EP1's mostly beat-less dynamics lends it to polysemous reading; at once comparable with elements of La Peste's late '90s french flashcore or the unquantised designs of FIS, and likewise, it's applicable as both 'floor-shocking DJ tools, or as a prop in your own, private sci-fi fantasy.

Since its first night in March 2013, Boxed has helped cultivate a
generation of instrumental grime. Inspired by the raw talent coming
through in 2012 and driven by the lack of club spaces to play it in,
Slackk, Mr. Mitch, Oil Gang and Logos’s clubnight has hosted rooms at
Fabric, Plastic People, The Troxy and Birthdays, and is set to embark
on its first tour later this year. Some of electronic music’s most
crucial producers - Mumdance, Finn, Murlo, JT the Goon, Yamaneko and
many more - have found a second home of sorts in Boxed, and the
residents were amongst the first people championing their music.

People have talked about “the Boxed sound”, but key to Boxed’s success
is the range of sounds found at the club night: you’re as likely to
hear peak-time anthems by Trends and Spooky as you are mediative
experiments by Sharp Veins. For the first 12” on the Boxed label, they
showcase the breadth of styles that the night represents. Slackk and
Dullah Beatz’ contemplative ‘Forest Walk’ is the polar opposite of
Lloyd SB’s stripped back banger ‘X Out’, while Trends’ monstrous ‘Old
Skool 2’ refix seems to share little join common with Spokes’ ‘Tragedy
in the Jasmine Garden’. But all have been road-tested at Boxed and
become crowd favourites - at both the club night and on this release,
they make perfect sense together.
