"This mix is really special to me. I wanted to honor Temple by playing music that moves me and rarely get the chance to play— a blend of old gems and new discoveries. I picture this session as 'free-form': The energy shifts and fluctuates throughout, keeping listeners relaxed but engaged for the next acts.

Creating this mix felt like piecing together a puzzle, selecting the tracks I was excited to listen to on the incredible sound system at Espacio Perpendicular. I also kept in mind while selecting, the comfortable and cozy setting, with the cute pillow setup on the floor and beautiful sunlight entering the big windows—making it the perfect place for everyone to really dive into the music. I got to learn, connect with seasoned listeners, and enjoy the fantastic sets of the other artists, all while embracing the sweet, mellow vibe of a gathering like Temple. I was inspired to the core with the full experience, so here are some songs I love for you all :)"

Kia: Mixmag ANZ Cover Mix 06 (100% Animalia)

The eleventh. This week we're very excited to welcome Hong Kong native Xiaolin to the podcast. A DJ, producer, and classically trained multi-instrumentalist, Xiaolin has crafted a genre-bending, 2 hour listening journey through a myriad of textures, both deep and dark, showcasing a distinctive selection of tracks from friends and producers based in Asia. The viscous atmospheres, built and crafted bar by bar from the first moments of the mix, are so visceral that one feels they could almost reach out and touch them. The lights dim as we sink to greater and greater depths.

The second half of the mix opens up and capitalises on these elements, newly found sonic spaces filled with an ever changing flow of percussive patterns, a surprise around every corner. The lights flicker. Something has changed. We've been gently guided into new aural territory, perhaps without even realising it. 

Closing out the mix, we're propelled skyward from the depths, towards the light, into a shimmering, dreamlike soundscape. Only at the very last moment do our feet lightly make contact with the earth again as Xiaolin masterfully brings this voyage to a close.

Sit down, get comfortable, and float away.

This week. welcoming a dear friend and one of my all-time favourite DJs & producers, Swiss wizard @agonis-amenthia - part of the mystical Basel crew - @amenthia-recordings.

A "techno" sound so unique, modern & boundary pushing, it makes you question the genre entirely. Agonis has become known for his bass, techno, dub, idm-everything.. infused releases, always meticulous and full of surprises. On top of a an extremely reliable and exciting back-catalogue of music and always on-point curation of Amenthia alongside his label co-head Garcon, he is also an incredible DJ. Here for Animalia a special mix inspired by many special shared moments on the dancefloor <3  pure euphoria!

Welcome to the underground of the Portuguese underground. Not necessarily the oldest members, but at least among the most active and the most honest, because WTVR and 451F are the kind of artists who are involved, not to say committed, in their artistic approach and in all their cultural activism. Whether it's a career as a “pyromaniac” visual artist or one made up of encounters and accidents, these two producers certainly share a desire to defy the boundaries between genres, both thirsting for sonic experimentation.

So, is it still footwork? Is it still jungle? Or halftime? Or breakcore? Not really... and a bit of all that at the same time. And that's what makes this production so interesting. So, let's experiment!
