For the newest Animix, Thailand based DJ & producer @sunjuhargun has put together a beautiful downtempo trance exploration. Sunju co-curates @siamesetwinsrecords , an amazing label which focuses on trance-y, psychedelic sounds from Asian based artists. 

Sunju has a multitude of impressive releases under his name, as well as aliases Mogambo and Khun Fluff, and a plethora of beautiful mixes - which always seem to find the perfect balance between emotional and driving. Sunju has been a household name across the region for over a decade, playing spaced out music in forests, warehouses, and castles.

Animix Thirty Six: Sunju Hargun

We are over the moon to share with you a very special chapter of our monthly Podcast Series ~ courtesy of the enigmatic Khun Fluff. This forty-minute journey comes in the form of a live set weaving together Khun’s output on Siamese Twins with a tease of unreleased material 🌚✨

Khun Fluff is a stuff of legends ~ a mysterious double-headed cat living in the high mountains of Northern Thailand. Born and raised in a temple surrounded only by nature, gongs, bells and chimes. We also heard rumours it might be one of the aliases of the stellar Thai DJ, musician and Siamese Twins label head Sunju Hargun. Could it be so? 🤫🐈

This wildly meditative live set is a mystical deep listening adventure ~ a solo hike through the Thai mountain ranges under the scorching Sun and accompanied by a heavy scent of temple incense. There is no telling what you might find on this journey but one thing is for certain ~ it will be an adventure rich in drones and whispers and tingling percussion 📿

Podcast Series 23 | Khun Fluff

For the fourth installment of our mix series, we are pleased to present a live recording of Sunju Hargun's set at a recent edition in Tokyo. As an artist, Sunju is well known for his output through his Siamese Twin records, which he co-runs and effectively put Southeast Asia (back) on the global musical map. Noted as a skilled DJ and producer who floats between new interpretations of classic trance, deep techno, local traditional music, and re-imagining Goa music, he is equally apt at exploring ambient. In this recording, he shares his takes on contemporary ambient music, leaning on his productions, traditional music from his home region, and more modern ambient and experimental explorations. Expect a journey across musical heritages and genres, delivering a mix that presents a unique fusion of diverse geographical music styles, rhythms, and historic tunes.

Weaving the weird, bouncy and dark sounds from experimental industrial, no-wave, synthesiser recordings, clips from archived political interviews with house and techno.

For the last show of 2024 W.H.Y. plays a vinyl only show, selecting some of thier favorite records, new and old and chopped and screwed with vocal samples from Werner Herzog, Chris Morris, Philomena Cunk and The Witch. 

Many of the tracks selected were influenced by DeForrest Brown Jr. Album Black Nationalist Sonic Weaponry and this is part 1 and I look forward to exploring thier work further in the January show where we will be discussing this artist in more detail and my research in Sonic Warefare.

This week's animix comes from the incredible duo, Atrice (@atricemiras) - a mystical pairing who are part of a pool of insanely talented artists in the small Central European state, Switzerland -  there is a seemingly bursting ratio of talent per capita in this country!.

Drawing inspiration from everyday encounters and digital overstimulation, Atrice's music is refreshing, unique and modern - idm, experimental & bass driven - it somehow also sits perfectly amongst the class & purity of old school & solidified genres like dub, bass, techno - which is seen in their releases on labels like Illian Tape. 

On top of their productions and live sets, Lino & Pablo extend their craft with their on theme DJ'ing - always presenting new & exciting.. and always making perfect sense. For their animix, a beautiful journey through dub and beyond.

Don’t have many rules in life but one of them is that whenever a new mix by Pjenne comes out, to stop what I’m doing immediately and put it on. And probably am not alone here. 

Like many people, Pjenne’s mixes have been go-to’s, essential and always-classy additions to a landscape of noise and clutter. 

Like your favourite mix CD that never left the space•ship stereo. And no matter how many times you listen, it seems to get better and better with each play. They’re timeless, they’re crucial and the amount of care and love poured into each one is apparent as soon as you hear the first blend. 

Often compiled and cooked up over the course of a couple of years, they have the kind of craft and expertise that can only come from doing a weekly radio show for over 6 years, being a staple of her local Naarm scene and being an all-round legend. We’re pleased to report this mix is no different and has been on repeat since it arrived. 

Appreciate this is a bit of a gushy write up, but sometimes you’ve got to say it how it is, and anyone who’s a Pjenne Ultra will understand what a big day this is at space•lab HQ.
