Letters is part of the collaborative video work by the artist collective "TBP" that intertwines three distinct perspectives, creating a hybrid portrait that explores themes of identity, perception, and transformation. 
In an era where letters are reduced to bureaucratic exchanges or romantic nostalgia, Neukamp, Pechstein, and Tkadleček reclaim them as a space for introspection and transformation. The project unfolds through a dynamic exchange of visual and auditory elements, where each artist contributes to and alters the evolving composition. This iterative process symbolizes the fluidity of self-perception and the impact of external influences on personal identity. The deliberate transformation of images and sounds, without prior coordination, results in a seamless blend of individual expressions, challenging the boundaries between self and other. Pechstein reflects on the perception of oneself versus how one is viewed externally, emphasizing the transient nature of self-portraits as snapshots of ever-changing inner states. Tkadleček addresses the phenomenon of self-portrayal amidst a sea of anonymous images, questioning the authenticity of individual expression within societal expectations. Both perspectives converge to highlight the complexities of self-representation in the modern world. The accompanying sound piece is an integral component of the video, embodying the emotional landscape of the work. It features a minimalist arrangement with subtle variations, tension, and release, achieved through meticulous tape loop manipulation and dynamic processing. This auditory experience complements the visual narrative, reinforcing the themes of transformation and introspection. Letters invites viewers to reflect on the interplay of personal and external forces in shaping identity, offering a contemplative exploration of how we perceive ourselves and are perceived by others.
