(I have no idea what's going on with the SoundCloud recommendation program that I use, but every so often Interbay tracks just...miss everyone.  It isn't because the songs are particularly bad, because they're not being listened to...  Normally, not too big of a deal--but it's been happening more and more lately, including for the last two days.  Sure hope it doesn't happen again, today!  If you're reading this and can spare the time, please listen and like this song...but also yesterday's track "I Can See The Light" and the previous day's track "Xylyl" (or, really, ANY Interbay tracks.  Thanks!  Appreciated!)  

I sometimes talk about the strange journeys that these Interbay songs can sometimes take from whatever inspired them to however they end up when they escape from the Labs to here on SoundCloud.  It is rarely a straight line...and today's track, "Heartbreak (Hear Your Voice)" is certainly one of the unstraightest.  

...which is strange, because it is one of the purest pop/synth pop tracks that I've yet made.  

How could its journey from idea to track be twisted?  Well, let's start with the fact that this was not the track I worked on yesterday.  It was the track that I started late last night when I realized that the track I had been working on was taking me down a dead end.  That can happen and the best thing to do is to put it aside and pick it up again later, with fresh ears.  But, though there are a couple of completed tracks sitting on the shelf...they didn't feel like something that I wanted to share at this moment--for various reasons.  

So, despite being incredibly tired, I started a new FL Studio Project and...well, frankly, I didn't know.  I didn't have anything burning in my brain that I couldn't wait to make happen.  I found a sound I liked, I found a nifty little pattern for that song...and...I fell asleep.  (Told you I was tired!)  

The last thing I remember is giving it a temporary project name "judicate".  Is that even a word?  (It is--but it means the same thing as adjudicate, which is far more common.)  I remember thinking that it could be a cute pun about having a conflict with someone named Judi-Cate, or TWO people, one named Judi the other named Cate.  

But, when I woke up...all I saw was eight notes of music and the word "judicate"...and I'd totally forgotten why I'd picked the word or what I thought I might do with it.  

I dropped my kid off at PAXwest and on the way, I had the idea that this little trifle of a tune could be giving me its theme--a little bite of music.  I started thinking of words to go with this idea--appetizer, nibble, morsel, tidbit, amuse-bouche, canape, hors d'ouevre, snacks...  

I even broke out my microphone, thinking I might sing some lyrics that I figured would be easy to whip up, given all of those specific ideas already in my head.  (I did not end up singing on this--you're welcome.)    

While I worked on the music, I just wasn't in the right mood to think of lyrics based on little food (I blame Mounjaro).  And, as I kept adding layers of music (though, it remains a rather focused and simple tune--for Interbay at least), the less I thought it fit the idea that I'd had in the car.  

In the end, I settled for some royalty free synthwave vocals...a cheeky sample that hopefully Icarus won't risk melting for...and an ending that got totally out of control.  (But, hopefully, in a good way.)  

It is the toppermost of the poppermost--and I compromised on the title, as I had a few to choose from.
