From what I remember, I firstly heard about « Synthwave » when I came across Carpenter Brut by spending hours on Youtube’s suggestions. What a discover it was to me ! Being able to bring together 80's retro synth sounds and modern electronic music techniques in that way felt so refreshing !

But Synthwave is more than just a revival of a nostalgic 80’s synth-era. It is definitely the hub of a broader movement, gathering a whole generation of music lovers, movie makers, graphic designers, old style gamers, where those kind of medias and arts perfectly blend with that « retrofuturistic » feeling. Just write « retrofuture » on Google, and see how many results are leading to this beautiful highway of possibilities.

Since notable works in the mid-00’s by pioneers like Kavinksy (remember ‘Nightcall’ ?), Lifelike and College (one of the Valerie Collective founder) to name a few, the retrofuturistic vibe has spread in various media forms like movies (Drive, RAGE, The Guest, Kung Fury…) or video games (Hotline Miami I & II, Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon, Furi…), and currently keeps on building its own culture by embracing both nostalgia of the 80’s and resources from tomorrow.

In this playlist, which is the third I am dedicating to a specific style of electronic music I particularly appreciate, you will find more than 150 tracks from various synth-influenced artists, who can sometimes be associated with DarkSynth like Perturbator, Dan Terminus, Carpenter Brut etc ; softer melodic Synthwave like Gunship, Mitch Murder or Droid Bishop, and also a bit of Vaporwave like HOME (heard about Simpsonwave ? If not, you should check, definitely worth it !).
It took me some time to collect’em all, so if the playlist fits your needs, feel free to support it the way you want, it would be very grateful and would also help other people to learn more about this vibe !
