This "Step to the Mic" was created by Newcomers Keep Coming (NKC) as a living expression of hope, healing, and freedom from alcoholism. We believe recovery isn't just about surviving — it's about finding your voice, your rhythm, and your power. This project combines the spiritual heartbeat of AA with the raw truth of rap, showing that through music, community, and the 12 Steps, there is light after the darkness. From broken bottles to broken chains — we free now. NKC, stand up. Let’s go.

Yo, it’s one day at a time — that’s how we do,
Twelve Steps, one purpose: stay sober, stay true.
We’ve been through the fire, now we rise from the flame,
This is AA — no shame, just name.

I was lost in the bottle, couldn’t see my face,
Chasin’ numb nights, tryin’ to escape disgrace.
Woke up broke, hearts shattered like glass,
Till I stumbled through the doors, left the drink in the past.

NKC got that healing key.
We don’t shoot blame, we shine that light,

Step One — I’m done, I admit I’m beat,
Powerless over booze, life dropped me in the street.
Step Two, hope’s back, a Power I find,
Tappin’ on the soul — peace inside my mind.
Step Three — I turn it all over,
Will and life to God, now I’m feelin’ bolder.

[Verse 3 - Steps 4 to 7]
Four and Five, I dig real deep,
Wrote the wreckage down, now I don’t lose sleep.
Told it to my sponsor, got that grace,
The shame left my heart, tears down my face.

Step Six, I’m ready — all defects in view,
Seven, I ask, “God, please make me new.”
Old patterns break when humility speaks,
Now I’m buildin' a life that ain’t been seen in weeks.

Ten, I check me on the daily,
When I’m wrong, I own it — no maybes.
Progress not perfection, I stay on that grind,
Keep my side clean and a peaceful mind.

Eleven, I pray and I meditate,
Talk to my God when I’m feelin’ off-weight.
I seek that will, that calm, that light,
To guide my steps when the world ain’t right.
