A fitting moniker for up and coming rapper; Joel Verdad, a Charlotte North Carolina native who is poised to bring hip hop back to its roots. Born Donovan Joel Long, it was the melodic flow of poetry and literary pieces, including Shakespeare, which piqued the young intellects interests and served as a catalyst into the world of hip hop. A Hopewell high school graduate and the youngest of three siblings, Verdad put his college education on hold to pursue his love for music. As a staple on the Queen City music scene, Joel has impressed many with such songs as the hypnotizing “Sweet Carols”, “Soul” featuring Ryan Harrell, “Church on Traxxx” featuring Deniro Farrar and “Kradle Rock” featuring Young Money artist Lil’Chuckee. His lyrics, while enlightening and fun, possess an emotional and spiritual element rarely seen in today’s musical line up. A fan of eclectic beats, Verdad will inevitably be compared to other artists such as; Lupe Fiasco, Cee-lo Green, and Andre 3000.
