Hi-Vis (@beyondbelow) continues the curation of Dreamtone with Chronostasis by @nervous-operator.

Written after moving to Chicago from Vancouver, Chronostasis is a reflection of urban landscapes in the midst of active reclamation by the ancient swamps on which both cities were founded. Mechanical sounds coexist with viridescent meditations. Each element is the entropy of the other, the successes of one modifying the strategies of the other.

Patricia Wolf is a musician, sound designer, and curator residing in Portland, Oregon. Wolf uses electronics, voice, and field recordings to produce non-linear compositions that draw listeners to a hypnotic inner world. Her use of melody and repetition manipulate the listeners' perception of time, conjuring vivid textures, and atmospheres.

This is a special exclusive mix made by Patricia Wolf for Sharlese's 10-17-21 Expansions show on KEXP radio in Seattle.

Patricia Wolf - Guest DJ Mix on Expansions on KEXP 10-17-21

On Chaotic Era, Dickow's first release with Dreamtone, the artist zeroes in on a strain of glitched & scorched production that applies subtle decisions of textural disfiguration and effects processing to central synth figures that lurch and churn along their own chopped rhythmic grids. As Dickow builds tracks over foundations that might resemble a corroded sample airing out a melancholy quasi-melody, or backdrops of throbbing bass accented with speckles of static, he patiently tinkers with the timbre and level of intensity of each element in the mix. The result is a branch of ambient music that steps just over the threshold of narcosis into the realm of steady narrative development, complicated with the upheavals of a wall of distortion here, a sudden dollop of abstract electronic putty there - all struck through with microscopic details in tonal shaping and generatively interacting arrhythmic loop architectures.

Chaotic Era arrives in tandem with a surreal short graphic work by Lando. The artist runs a publishing collective called Decadence alongside fellow comic artist Stathis Tsemberlidis, who together have published 11 anthologies of short science-fiction comics featuring their own work, as well as other contributors - including a number of Lando's individual zines. Lando has also been featured in a larger collection of older / out of print work published by UK publisher Breakdown Press. His stories explore themes including ecology, geopolitics and deep time, while experimenting with the format of the printed zine to escape conventional expectations.

[PREVIEW] Strategy - Hellbound And Nitrous (DT003)

Back in the late ’70’s my writing partner Jay Phillips and me had a meeting at Chappell music to shop a a few of our newest songs. They had already published a couple of our songs and while we awaited our meeting, there on their song request chalk board was a message: Norman Lear is looking for a new theme song Mary Hartman. We decided to give it a shot.   Long story short, Chappell loved it, gave us a cash a cash advance to publish and scheduled time in their studio to demo it.  A mixing session was arranged for the next week. A day before the session we got a call from Chappell’s recording studio telling us both the session and show had been cancelled….There went my penthouse on the Costa Del Sol.

So what you’re hearing is the demo we recorded unmixed. Synthesizers were a brand new concept at the time, which, if you listen, you’ll notice dominates the demo track. Hope it don’t hurt your ears too much.
