I recorded this in the club below my apartment while they were hosting VR games on the dance floor. I was just using headphones while these American tourists were going nuts shooting at nothing in front of me. I had a really cool, artsy layout in mind for this mix and after a couple of attempts the peculiarity of what was going on in front of me ended up with me getting intensely sucked into the 4x4. You live your life trying not to get sucked into the 4x4 yet here we are

Commençant par fonder le collectif VSN aux côtés de KETTAMA and ensuite, tout en gagnant au fur et à mesure une réputation grâce à ses sets versatiles et mémorables, il a depuis continué à briller sur Rinse France, aussi bien qu’en faisant des guests mixs sur la BBC Radio One, Rinse FM, Noods et Limbo Radio, tout ceci dans la même année !

It is certainly refreshing in the modern day to hear an artist describe the love and affection they have collecting and mixing vinyl in the way Steven Hughes does. He has spent the past few years learning and perfecting his craft on a pair of turntables and CDJs, carving out a sound which perfectly reflects his boisterous personality.

Although Ste hasn't quite had the opportunities his talent behind the decks warrant, we are definitely hoping that this will provide the platform for him to grow in confidence and as an artist. He is no stranger to the club scene and has certainly earned his stripes over the past few years, observing and picking up tips and tricks from some of the best DJs in the game. He even admits that seeing Eris Drew b2b Octo Octa encouraged him not to sell his turntables and to continue putting in the countless hours it takes to perfect.

His vinyl only mix is one of the only we've had here on New Wave, and is a perfect representation of the sound he is trying to push. The fast but groove orientated techno showcased in the mix both pays homage to the early 2000's DJs that drove that sound whilst adding newer fresher tracks from DJs like Hector Oakes and Darc Marc.

For those not familiar with Ste, he is guaranteed to provide you with a laugh or two in the interview segment. In one of our favourite ones to date, we discuss buying and selling DJ equipment on Facebook, the move from a DJM mixer to a Xone 92, the influence of his cousin on his early sound, his view on DJs who only play vinyl and his approach to club nights post pandemic.

Introducing our new podcast series Cued Up - listen back to our recent virtual chat with none other than Dublin’s own DJ and Producer, R.kitt.

R.Kitt is a DJ/producer from Dublin who has been making music for the last decade and has played extensively on the Irish festival and club circuit, including international gigs in London and Berlin. He’s also well known for hosting a local collective night called Dip with friends Cáit, Enda and Jenn, in a community arts space called Jigsaw. With a string of EP releases on local and international labels to his name, his focus has recently shifted to working alongside Sunil Sharpe on the Give Us the Night campaign since 2018. Over the next few months, he hopes to work on building a sound system and look into alternative spaces where people can gather and listen to electronic music. As well as this, if the pandemic anxiety allows for it, hopefully, he’ll release some more music and share a few mixes that aim to get you moving a bit faster on your bike. 

Robbie chats to Robert and Rossa from the society, focusing on topics in the nightlife industry such as mental health, writer’s block, the Give Us The Night campaign, as well a few funny stories from over the years. The closing mix is provided by our own society member Mark Colclough.
