David White interviews David Bowie as part of a survey of his career through the 1970s.  They discuss several albums, starting with Space Oddity and the inspiration behind it. They move on to The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, the concept behind the record, the Ziggy Stardust character and his storyline, as well as the meaning of the song Suffragette City.  
Bowie recalls how he met producer Ken Scott, and the subsequent success of the album they made together: 1973's Aladdin Sane. He shares his first impressions of the United States, and explains the album cover. The musician also discusses the track The Jean Genie and its connection to Iggy Pop. 
Other albums discussed are Pin Ups and Diamond Dogs. The interview was recorded around the time Bowie's 13th album Lodger was released, in 1979.
