Following recent fairly major surgery I found the hypnosis sessions very useful both before and after surgery. I was very lucky to have Dr Paul Slater as my anaesthetist and felt comforted as I went into theatre. Thank you very much. Kay Brandom

Controlling anxiety before hospital procedures: A hypnosis series by Consultant Anaesthetist, Dr. Paul Slater.

Track 1: 
This will give an introduction to me, explain what to expect when listening to the sessions and also talk about anxiety.  It will tell the listener how to listen to the sessions, when they can be used, how they can be useful and what not to do.

Track 2:
This is the shorter of the two hypnosis sessions and is designed for patients to listen to at any time, before or during hospital procedures.  It will help patients relax when they are acutely anxious and help train relaxation if used repeatedly.

Track 3:
This is the longer of the two sessions and is designed for patients to listen to before their hospital procedure.  It will provide suggestions on how patients can refrain some of the common anxieties regarding hospital procedures to help develop a more positive outlook.

Session 1 - Hypnosis session to help manage anxiety

Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust provides general acute services for a population of 380,000 and hyper-acute stroke, vascular and renal services to people living throughout whole of Northamptonshire, a population of 692,000.  The Trust is also an accredited cancer centre and provides cancer services to a wider population of 880,000 who live in Northamptonshire and parts of Buckinghamshire.

The principal activity of the Trust is the provision of free healthcare to eligible patients.  We are a hospital that provides the full range of outpatients, diagnostics, inpatient and day case elective and emergency care and also a growing range of specialist treatments that distinguishes our services from many district general hospitals.  We also provide a very small amount of healthcare to private patients.
