Nkisi produces intense, powerful sonics influenced by ancient Kongo rhythms, rhythmic noise, our planetary electromagnetic grid, and experimental improvisation. The creative musician and visual artist is one of the co-founders of NON Worldwide. She recently launched her label INITIATION and research platform The Secret Institute, exploring the secrets and mysteries of vibrational rhythm, the ritual as a socio-political tool, invisible gestural sonics, noise tantra, and strategies of trance.

We want to establish new ways to think and act collectively via sonic means. Sound’s ability to touch the listener, to involve them via emotional and physical affection, turns the sonic into a partner in the fight for a more just world. Sonic Agency is led by urgency and the pressing need for articulation. It is an effort to enable and reinforce transformative processes in our societies, while critically questioning hegemonic systems. Sonic Agency opens up space for a caring community of equals. Sonic Agency is grounded in the sonic’s ability to introduce the feeling of connectivity, and the possibility of community – a community yet to come.

Scorpio Red is pleased to announce the release of Zeynep Ağcabay’s second EP, out on the 7th June 2024.

The Turkish born, London based artist’s 4-track release ‘Memories from the Future’ re-frames memory as a non-linear plane of time: visions and sounds collected from “memories” that are yet to occur but feel already lived. An effort to merge her self-titled spiritual folk project with her former ambient pop moniker mea0u, ‘Memories From The Future’ evokes a cyclical, nostalgic and trippy dream sequence. Distorted vocals, a nod to heavy exposure to Western pop influences, meet with samples of Turkish Ney flute and percussion reminiscent of "home".

Grimy rap killers from two of Uganda’s finest MC’s, Ecko Bazz & Biga Yut, with production from Nihiloxica’s pq and a remix from new name, Ekhe, all doing it for Nyege Nyege Tapes’ sister label, Hakuna Kulala

Moving from strength to strength after shots from MC Yallah, Demaster, Slikback and Sleeping Buddha, Ecko Bazz takes the lead on ‘Tuli Banyo’, trading bars with Biga Yut, another MC from the Gabba ghetto surrounding NNT’s Boutiq studio in Kampala.

The energy and rudeness of the original recalls early UK grime, with pq’s Mr. Slash-like rhythm held tight for the rambunctious MCs, before Leeds/London’s Ekhe reworks the ting as a grimy stepper with serious hardcore techno intentions.

“Idée Fixe” is the point of origin in the collaborative relationship between Splash Pattern and Misantrop, created while both artists were re-evaluating their individual sonic identities. The EP therefore takes up a life of its own, distinct from the respective outputs of Splash Pattern and Misantrop.
The release consists of three cuts of twitchy, pounding and synthetic club tracks. An homage to exuberant and innovative dancefloor sounds, the EP implements a pliable palette of sounds into three tracks blending influence from a range of high energy dance styles.
“Idée Fixe” conflates grime, techno, electro and beyond into a three piece puzzle; the rolling opener “Same Logic”, followed by the frantic 150 BPM bouncy ball “Monomania”, and ending in a dancehall incarnation on title track “Idée Fixe”.
