Solid Grooves drop their latest Summer Sampler to close August as Michael Bibi and PAWSA invite a selection of the scene’s finest to deliver the label’s 2021 instalment.

An annual fixture in the calendar for many, Solid Grooves’ summer Various Artist offering welcomes a project showcasing a UK label at the forefront of the scene. Having recently returned as a family across sold out shows in London and Bristol, late August welcomes this year’s highly-anticipated drop from a wealth of SG favourites and close friends.

Offering up a combination of up-front and more minimal-leaning productions, co-founders Michael Bibi and PAWSA step out alongside residents Bassel Darwish, Blackchild (ITA), Eddy M, Ramin Rezaie and Reelow, plus 2021 guests Carloh, Detlef and Wheats, to deliver a ten track package you won’t want to sleep on.

The US-born, UK-based artist delivers this ‘History of Groove’, consisting in one original track and its remix, by the one and only Technasia. ‘History Of Groove (Original Mix)’ is a carnivalesque, well structured, steady and soulful track, with many elements aligning together nicely to create this transient yet great track for any moment on the floor. Its wooden percussion, claps and distant vocals make this one a truly outstanding creation, that surely will make the rounds in dancefloors all over the world. Then, we have Technasia’s remix, a more techier affair with a vibe of its own, where Charles Siegling turns the original into a complete different beast, more dancefloor oriented and ready to tear up some dancing shoes. Since launching in early 2019, Dennis Cruz and Eddy M's MÜSE imprint has quickly seen the pairing curate one of the scenes most impressive rising labels - welcoming the likes of Tube & Berger, Piem and Alan Nieves alongside rising talents including Gruuve and Bizen Lopez, whilst also serving as a key outlet to release their own productions and material. Hot on the heels of Cruz's latest stand-out EP, 'KMA', early-August welcomes the debut split EP offering on the label as both co-founders return alongside one another for the very first time to serve up the twotrack 'Show Me / Five'. 

Eddy M's 'Show Me' opens proceedings with authority as the Barcelona-based DJ and producer combines crisp metallic drum lick atop of driving low-end tones and escalating lead lines to deliver a high-energy opening cut, whilst Cruz's bubbling 'Five' employs trademark hooky vocal samples alongside menacing basslines and icy hats to showcase a rolling cut typical of the ever-impressing Spaniard.

Two of house and techno’s most-established talents collaborate on their debut release together, as Hot Creations head Jamie Jones teams up with Mood Records boss Nicole Moudaber on Pepper Shake.

Short, sweet and with no filler involved, Pepper Shake gets us underway swiftly, and the name certainly does the track justice. Up-tempo hats whistle beside a driving bassline, before a female vocal reels in and out. The styles of both artists are present throughout, with Jamie’s signature groove providing the foundation and Nicole’s deeper techno style coming through in the synths. Bubble Ride completes the release. Dark, gritty and harder-edged than its predecessor, this is a stripped-back peak-time club cut, with a penetrating bassline and hard-hitting kick patterns. The occasional pulse of an atmospheric sample further enhances the body of the track, to form something that’s built solely for the dancefloor.

Beatport Music Awards Winners 2012 - Best Tech House track: NiCe7 – Point (Gruuv Rec)-
Nicola Daniele and Cesare Marocco – aka NiCe7 – are not new in the worldwide Tech
House scene with over a decade of activity and a good number of high topping charts
releases, remixes and collaborations.
Deep House is another realm where they have succeeded in with their popular “Back to
Basics” EP and then scoring a chart-topping hit with their remix of Jon Cutler’s “It’s
Yours”, both released on Noir Music. That year they also founded their own record label DFloor,
an imprint dedicated to “credible and forward-thinking outputs.”
Since 2005, the year the two paired up, they NiCe7 have released on a great number of
highly respected and renowned underground labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Defected,
Snatch!, Noir Music, Get Physical, Gruuv and Mother to name only a few, always crafting
dance floor bombs for whoever calls on their services and with collaborations/remixes to and
from the likes of Claude VonStroke, Terranova, Steve Bug, Claptone, Romanthony, Riva
Starr, Artbat, Luke Solomon, Audiojack, Luna City Express, Argy, Pirupa, Latmun,
Tiger Stripes, Carlo Lio, Dario D’Attis, Jon Cutler and Dirty Channels among others.
They also mixed the infamous “Defected Miami” compilation back in 2014 and same year
have been guests at Pete Tong’s BBC Radio1 show under his “Future Stars” feature.
Always managing to stimulate great reactions and vibes to the crowds they play to thanks to
their inimitable DJ style mixing up all styles from techy to darker to funkier, this pair
performed at the liks of Cocorico’ in Riccione, Output in NY, Space Ibiza, Watergate in
Berlin, Ministry of Sound London among other in addition to their already-impressive
history of festivals and clubs appearances all over the world.
Keep an eye on this eclectic and unpredictable duo, more interesting releases are lined up
for what’s looking to be one of their most interesting music years to date!
