Work Song - Nat Adderly

The title of this piece, Domingo Chileno, is Spanish for Chilean Sunday.  I composed this piece to depict one of the Sundays I spent near Santiago, Chile.  The piece is made up of four sections, each illustrating a different part of the day.  The opening quotes the melody the neighborhood church bells played every Sunday morning and portrays the quiet early morning.  

The second section quotes the hymn "O Filii et Filiae" and depicts the Mass.  

The third section emulates the style of the Chilean national dance, the Cueca, and was composed to depict the large, joyful lunch gatherings we would have at my host family's home after mass. 

The final section recapitulates the main themes in the piece to create the feeling of drifting to sleep after an exciting day.  

This is a recording of the world premiere of this work by the University of Louisiana Symphony on February 20, 2015.

I Am was composed in 2015 during Michigan State University’s Composer and Performer Symbiosis seminar, as a result of the collaboration between composer, Lynnsey Lambrecht, and baritone, Andrew Breuninger. I Am is the first art song of a song cycle, Legacy, in which all of the texts selected deal with denial, desolation, destruction, death, and acceptance. The text for the composition was assembled from selected prominent quotes from The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. The vocal line spans the entire range of the performer, while the ending material is reiterated and raised as the speaker reassures himself to gain confidence.

I Am

My first composition. I am a sophmore in highschool and plan on majoring in music. I love any and all critiques!

Dr. Nick DiSalvio is a professional saxophonist and music educator from Manahawkin, New Jersey. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education with a specialization in Jazz Studies from Rowan University. He taught music for two years in the New Jersey public school system before receiving his Master's Degree in Saxophone Performance from Illinois State University under the instruction of Dr. Paul Nolen.

Nick is also a graduate of Louisiana State University, where received the degree Doctor of Musical Arts in Woodwind Performance under the instruction of Dr. Griffin Campbell.

Nick is an experienced performer and educator, specializing in classical and jazz saxophone. He has a passion for saxophone chamber music. He is experienced in individual and small group music instruction, as well as new teacher education. He has performed extensively around the country with musicians such as Johnny Mathis, Denis DiBlasio, Wayne Bergeron, George Rabbai, Ed Vezinho, Dale Underwood, and many more. He has also performed with groups including the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, The Baton Rouge Jazz Ensemble, The Heartland Jazz Orchestra, New World Funk, Questionable at Best, Cold Grits, and more.
