The Cyclist produces, what he has termed, “Tape Throb”; musical excursions into techno dance that echo the production techniques and warm sounds of the electronic pioneers, taking his cues from the likes of Throbbing Gristle and Boards Of Canada.  His releases to date on labels like Stones Throw, All City Records, Music Is For Losers and Crash Symbols have seen him rack up four full length albums (including under his Buz Ludzha moniker) with plenty more juice in the tank, as his debut on Hypercolour attests to.

“Pressing Matters” harks back to the golden age of breakbeat; bendy synths and pliable bass smack in the face of brain melting breaks, delivered with energy and a very authentic touch.    A hugely unique sound and without frontiers, it’s a cut that will cross genres with ease. 

Robag Wruhme never fails to disappoint as a producer/remixer; his purple patch seems to show no sign of letting up, with releases on Pampa, Kompakt and remixes for Stimming, Alter Ego and Paul Kalkbrenner.  His remix of “Pressing Matters” masterfully flips from its breaks origins into a twisted four to the floor belter, with grandiose touches and church like organs giving it a spiritual spin.

“Back In ‘92” will indeed evoke memories 24 hour pirate radio output and raving in fields, and for those who weren’t there first time around, it’s a cut that’s as fresh and vital sounding today as it ever was, with light piano riffs and melodious keys over the choppy drums.

Featuring the vocal talents of Tanaya Harper, “Push” closes the EP in fine style; intricate drum patterns and rolling snares jar against the ethereal vocal performance and brooding synths, a quintessentially British type of production and one that treads similar territory to Jamie XX’s recent pathos to UK rave culture.

Enigmatic Berlin­based producer Algorythm provides the debut release on the new vinyl imprint Neptune Records.

Initiating the package, stuttering percussion and echoing effects form the deep and mesmerising ‘Santos Express’. Syncopated rhythms and thudding bass hits then make up ‘LFO’ as twinkling melodies work their magic, before ‘Bird Cage’ introduces soaring chords and tranquil notes. Tying things together, thudding kicks and snappy snares drive ‘Omar’s Deli’ forward as various layers of serene synths and pads are blended together.

Biotop proudly welcomes Indian ambassador Pawas back to the label. One year after his acclaimed Versus Vol.1 EP, he’s back with the follow-up, Versus Vol.2 - this time accompanied by two very good friends.

Pawas kicks off the EP with Else, inspired by the open air club of the same name run by Berlin’s Wilde Renate crew. After a few hours dancing the day away with his favourite DJs, Pawas felt a strong wave of motivation and followed it straight into his studio - located in the Renate building just across the Elsen bridge - to write the song.

For the second track, Pawas teamed up with another precious Biotop artist: Mastra. Their track together, In Your Love, is a very special tune, with every musical element played live by the duo at Mastra’s analog cave in Bern, Switzerland. The final gem, Musk, delights with its disco influences, produced by Pawas and his Indian friend Gokul Rao Kadam in Bangalore, India.

Adam Marshall has long being an artist admired by the Maeve label. From featuring in early carnations of Mano Le Tough & The Drifter’s Passion Beat parties to producing tracks like “North at Night” and “Vamping”, Adam has always been an artist, all three of the Maeve founders were eager to work with. 

Over the course of the last 12 months and through much back and forth, a four track package finally emerged that all parties now feel very proud to release into the world. “Low Poly Nature EP” features several guises of underground electronic music and in parts pushes their boundaries. 

“Core Dub”, is a slick, quick, classic Canadian techno track. Tinged with nostalgia, the layered pianos and galloping beats make for a super A1 and great start to the record. “House Shipping (Jammed Mix)” is slightly more subdued, living up to its title, this beautiful meandering house tune feels like a dreamy jam and makes up the A2 of the release. 

On the flip “Illusions of House” kicks things off, an off kilter jarring melody provides the basis for what initially feels a bit confusing but eventually graduates into quite the banger thanks to some well chosen percussion and excellent arranging. “Epsic Basic Drops”, rounds off the release and in many ways encapsulates the spirit of the whole record. This track again feels like a raw jam lifted straight from a studio session and in its beauty and madness leaves the listener a little puzzled as to how it should be defined.

It’s been a year and a half since we last saw La Fleur grace Watergate Records with a proper EP, having been featured on remix duties for Sasha’s ‘Trigonometry’ and her contribution ‘Femton’ to the celebrated 15 Years compilation.

So her brand new ‘Outbreaker’ EP arrives just in time to curb any impatience you might have waiting for her signature blend of house and techno aesthetics fused with modern production techniques that sets her apart from her peers.

La Fleur kicks things off with a wild heaving bass line and crisp, distinctive organic claps on ‘Devil Sigh’ setting the tone for the hypnotic groove that soon turns into a high energy burner of explosive bursts and an incredibly unique lead guaranteeing an absolute hit. It only gets better when one of the hottest acts on the scene, Tuff City Kids, lend their talents for a remix and turn ‘Devils Sigh’ into an analog heavy, future-retro banger that’s as different as it is the same as the original, creating a perfect alternative to the already killer original.

Wrapping things up, La Fleur takes it a little slower and deeper with ‘Outbreaker’ by utilizing lush organic percussion and washed out guitars to build a tune that will be the anthem for early mornings, open airs and beach sessions alike. We couldn’t be happier to have the first lady of Watergate back at the controls and we think you will agree.

Marquis Hawkes has today shared the first track from his forthcoming EP, ‘Don't U which features vocals from Ursula Rucker’, due out on the 29th June on limited run 12" vinyl as well as digital and streaming services. The lead single will also feature on his upcoming second album, set for release later this summer and with more details coming soon, it will follow his critically acclaimed debut ‘Social Housing’ from the summer of 2016, and a string of releases on Will Saul’s AUS Music label. 
 
Lead single ‘Don’t U’, an intuitive high-energy club track that wears its heart on its sleeve, features American spoken word artist and activist Ursula Rucker who captures a moment of divine elevation on the dance-floor. The EP also features three more dance-floor focussed, DJ friendly remixes from Hawkes himself.
 
First emerging as Marquis Hawkes in 2012, after being sought out by the founders of Glasgow label Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, and having previously been heavily involved with the free festival soundsystem culture, the London born artist’s iconic sound has taken shape with the influence of house and techno from cities like Chicago, Detroit and New York alongside the UK’s underground dance scene.
 
Back with a bang, ‘Don’t U’’s effortless marriage of classic slamming house and grittily soulful optimism is sure to become an instant dance-floor epic, which will pave the way for Hawkes’ much anticipated second full length later this summer.
