Spring Disco Mix 2021

Whats up funky people!?! We are back with Volume 191 of the series and we head out to the west coast for some proper vibes served up by Radda Records head man, Jacob Poe from Portland, Oregon!

Jacob was first introduced to the electronic underground music scene in 1997; he was immediately drawn to the irresistible sound and set about getting his hands on every type of underground music he could find in his hometown of Portland, soon thereafter making his mark in the local scene as a House DJ.  Since emerging onto the scene Jacob has performed at various clubs and outdoor festivals from nearby Western states such as Montana, Washington, and his home state of Oregon to as far away as Italy.  Never one to adhere strictly to one style or genre of House music, Jacob combines his love of soulful, deep House with chunky, banging tech, finding the perfect balance between the styles and riding that wave to its crest, much to the delight of his steady, sweaty, dancefloor followers.  
 These days, in addition to performing out, you can find Jacob Poe feverishly working in the production studio, cranking out track after track of new material.  The sounds that drew him to collecting music and performing live now influence him in the studio as he creates his own original material; his love of funky, soulful, deep, techy, banging beats with hints of disco, jazz, and hiphop are clearly defined in his creations, and his dedication to creating original works shows.  Jacob has successful releases on mimosa recordings, Treasured Grooves, O.X.O Records, Ficus Tree, and Seven Records.

Jacob’s early successes in the production arena, his love for all types of music, and his persistent devotion to creating new material make him an artist to pay close attention to; he’s just getting warmed up, so slip on some comfy kicks and be sure to catch him performing live when you can.

This time a mix between current mood (mentioned before) and summer vibe. 

Aurora in the Desert is a cinematic and hypnotic journey, blending the deep pulse of Organic House with the slow, immersive flow of Downtempo and the tribal heartbeat of Deep Afro. Layered with ambient electronica textures and subtle industrial grit, the track unfolds like a surreal aurora shimmering above silent dunes - vast, intimate, and endlessly evolving.

Built on warm sub-bass, earthy percussion, and spacious atmospheres, it’s music for mindful listeners, late-night travelers, and seekers of hypnotic rhythm. No drops, no hooks - only motion, texture, and transformation.

Next ones will probably almost all have the same topic (systemic/institutional injustice) being emotional, deep, some with own lyrics (from soft, over direct with some anger and maybe last my first explicit song in German and English - well overdue here...^^) before I can really release other songs again...

French producer Vibes4YourSoul is a member of Yuksek’s Partyfine crew. Renowned for his cross-genre DJ sets he mixes disco, rare groove and afro-latin with house and Nu Disco sounds. LV Mixtape 130 - Vibes4YourSoul [Too Slow To Disco]

About a week into lockdown in March 2020, as the reality of the global pandemic first hit Scotland, the UK, Europe and ultimately all over the globe, my friend Richard and I made a pact to send each other tunes for 3 weeks as a kind of gift to keep each other’s spirits up.
 
Richard is the drummer in a band called Belle & Sebastian and has had a glorious career as a musician, as well as being a fabulously nice guy and a fine DJ.
 
Me…well I have been around producing music, running labels and touring as a DJ internationally for long enough now and have a reputation for low slung Disco and late night liquid breakfasts.
 
Both of us chose to make music our lives for good or bad. This meant that initially when the pandemic hit and music/events were banned that we instantly lost our passion, lifestyle and main income overnight. However, the thing we both missed the most was the people. Music people who tour all the time are used to a fairly gruelling but addictive lifestyle. If you don’t know you won’t be able to understand it fully. Each city you have your haunts and your people. The bars and districts you always head to and then of course the buzz and vibe of the events, the dinners, the drinks, the staff, the bouncers and of course most importantly the crowd. You develop a particularly thick skin. Sometimes you can go for days even weeks. It’s a circus lifestyle really.
 
And to have this suddenly and so drastically cut from your life. Well let’s just say it’s quite a shock!
 
At this time I was also sick. Seemed like I had the Rona. I certainly had most of the symptoms, but in those days testing was non existent and they said it would all pass by May anyway…so I was isolating in my bedroom and basement studio. And doing live DJ podcasts to keep my energy up and texting Richard and others I thought might be sympathetic and lend me an ear. There was quite a lot of tequila involved.
 
It seems quite long time ago now and things in many ways were innocent back then as we all knew so little about ‘The Virus’ and how long it would go on for and its impact on so many of our lives over that year of 2020.
 
But one thing you can be sure of is that this wee musical conversation between Richard and me was a daily source of joy. It helped us hang in there just.
 
Anyway, it seemed right to finally let loose this blend of music to help celebrate and in a strange way document the weird lost year that has been 2020. In particular, it has hit arts, events and music people very badly indeed. Devastating in fact. Not only because of their lifestyles, but because so many of their working practices meant that they qualified for no assistance at all in the UK and had to rely on their wits and looking for other incomes elsewhere at a time when most places were closed and most people were losing their jobs.
 
However, we hope you agree that in the context of this bloody mess us two pals sharing good tunes to cheer each other up ended up creating something rather special. Decades of good times, bad choices and wild lifestyles joined together in some kind of musical harmony.
 
So on New Year’s Eve (or Hogmanay as we call it in Scotland) at 9pm we will share with you the music we shared with each other to make things feel a wee bit better while stuck at home, which is where most of us will be this year. 

The hope is that this joyous musical blend will soothe those gathering with what family or friends they can outdoors, around fires or wherever, and make for some kind of celebration of love, life, friendship and music.

We have also dedicated the music and event to raising donations for Dundee Bairns a charity who deliver such needed food and the supplies to children and families who really need it. We hope you are able to contribute something to this great organisation and cause in these very difficult times.
