A founder and resident of Osaka’s long-running City Boy Lounge party, Ko Yang has been a steady contributor to Japanese music culture for the better part of a decade, hosting international and domestic artists at the homegrown CBL nights.

“Gianism” opens with a wiggly, subby bass born to make a peak time statement. Soon, some kind of pad - or engine - begins to warm up, cutting out just as dub chords blast off. A voice enters, beckoning in an unidentifiable language. A synth appears midway in some alien signature and time slows. We’re in deep space now.

Old Sage EP builds on Harkin’s rather prolific recent output that has seen stellar releases on labels we love such as Oklahoma City vinyl outfit Fixed Rhythms, Hollick and Seb Wildblood’s London-based Coastal Haze, and Eamon’s own Mister Saturday Night Records.

Larmour, the UK-born and Tbilisi Georgia-based artist, is set to release his upcoming 'False Thoughts EP' on March 3rd via MOTE Records, aka Mood Of The Era. The EP takes listeners on a journey through Larmour's personal experiences and emotions as he navigates a new country and discovers the challenges and triumphs of life in a new place.

The 'False Thoughts EP' showcases Larmour's love for breaks, combined with a rich tapestry of emotions, from love to pain, loneliness, joy, and nostalgia. Cyphon is proud to bring you brand new music from one of Europe’s pioneers of techno and IDM, Stefan Robbers aka Terrace and Florence. His early releases for Djax-Up-Beats and his own Eevo Lute Muzique in the early 90’s were hugely influential striking a sweet spot between stark minimalism, majestic analogue lushness and dance floor grooves. In more recent years his own reinterpretation of the Detroit sound can be found on the highly regarded Dutch label Delsin. 
 
Here on his ‘Thermionic EP’ Terrace sings out with such intensity that minds are blown. Listen to the brutal, exhilarating sequences of ‘Territorial’ which leads the new EP, and you will receive that message loud and clear. While the music is as much about the consequence of soulful depth, it is also about edgy machines communicating intimately. Delving into a more insightful breakdown of the artist’s genius process you can also hear how sweet chords fuse and then contrast with grainy Acidic sonics, leaving the tempo poised at an irresistible pace like all our futures depended on it. Complex yet not overly complicated there is an emotional directness pitched between the artist and audience that typifies all exceptional music. 
 
As you move next onto the more subtle electro pulse of ‘Thermon’, shimmering keys dance around a frame by frame remembrance of robotic disco in the 23rd century. Again, each layer sizzles with the spark of electricity energising the atmospheres while continuously constructing worlds of dangerous discourse, fuelled only by the white-hot energy of the discotheque. The uplifting brilliance of ‘Woodward’ follows filling the void with an explosion of colour that is all about life-affirming instrumentation, hitting you fast and loose with a cascade of arpeggios, tough drums plus an incendiary surge of melodic distraction causing the airwaves to crackle with celebration. Completing this stunning release from Terrace are the fierce, hotwired grooves forged by ‘Ritual’, conjuring up endless combinations of an analogue model rediscovered. The sheer dancefloor animation found within each of Terrace’s productions on this EP purposefully point to and enhance Cyphon Recordings own mission to explore, propelling the emphasis forever forwards.

tradition was born from two individuals forging an identity in the studio that consisted of a heads down approach and a love of machines.

Taking inspiration from their ‘live run’ studio recordings, the duo of Matt Domino and Norris Raider have built a sound that resonates on many levels and is rooted in a ‘hands on’ approach to creativity, traditionally speaking of course.

‘Slip’: adventuring into vintage Detroit systems with razor arps, dubbed out chords, insistent bass and heavy acid hypnosis.

‘Switchblade’: emerging from the underworld ready to slash and scar with scuttling beats and contorted bass that may have you dancing, or hiding behind your hoodie.

PREMIERE: <tradition> - Slip

Some time in 2017 Opal Sunn were playing a live set at a private house party in Berlin completely unaware they were sowing the seeds of the release you're reading about here.  Present that night was Nick Höppner's former booking agent, blown away by their performance, which has shown them very much in control of their repertoire, but also capable of captivating improvisations. When Nick approached him regarding talent for Touch From A Distance over a year later, he immediately recommended Opal Sunn.

Opal Sunn are Hiroaki Oba and Al Kassian, two expats from Japan. Al arrived in Berlin 2013 after studying in London. He also makes music as a solo artist and has released on Love On The Rocks and Utopia Records. Hiroaki is a 2010 RBMA alumni and divides his time between the German captial and Tokio. After releasing two eps on their own Planet Sundae label, they're offering their follow up on Nick Höppner's new label. Here they continue to refine their style which displays and exquisite sense of space, melody, movement and groove. Opal Sunn's music straddles the line of body music and stimulation of the mind always bringing this contrast to fruition with their tracks. 

At the heart of the energetic opener „Parallax“ lies an arpeggiated synth sequence that constantly shifts shapes and bounces off the syncopated percussion and beat marrying the technical with the organic.

„Aura“ rides an equally undeniable groove, but turns its misty-eyed gaze inwards, focussing on creating that oceanic feeling powered by emotive strings and textures.

Over on the flip side „Mirage“ folds into the haze of a sweaty dancefloor htting the sweet spot of minimalism, melodic content and physical propulsion. 

„Phantom“, the final track, drops the 4/4 in favour of an Electro beat occasionally kissed by the legendary „Think“ break. The vibe is decidedly deep and mellow rounding off an EP which oozes understated confidence and longevity.

Peace. That's what comes to mind when you listen to that premiere from @twfgray & @liam-ebbs-1 aka Thomas Gray and Liam Ebbs. "Elegy for Nick's Car" is a superb piece of tranquility and serenity made by the two Aussies. 

This track is an extract of their forthcoming EP called "3 days, 2 Nights" on Albrecht La’Brooy’s Analogue Attic.
