Los Angeles-based disco maven LUXXURY’s follows up on KCRW "Morning Becomes Eclectic" favorite "What Are We Gonna Do?" with another quasi-instrumental “Make it Right." Like Khruangbin meets Tory Y Moi and Washed Out with a falsetto nod to The Bee Gees, the song is all dusty beats, dreamy synths and a minimal just out of reach falsetto vocal. Inspired by a breakup (a bad one, like...really bad) the song is a hopeful refrain of redemption, in anticipation of new beginnings.

Make It Right

The fact that Los Angeles disco devotee LUXXURY’s latest single “…At Any Moment” comes at this particular moment of global fear and uncertainty, feels eerily prescient:

“Things are good today, but at any moment it could change…

Written (and its release date selected) many months ago, the fourth single from the KCRW-approved forthcoming EP "Moody (Disco) Music" is almost impossibly perfectly about NOW.

”Things are good today, at a moment’s notice, it could get strange…”

With a dreamy, 80’s influenced funk bassline and beat underpinning a watery Rhodes. LUXXURY (Blake Robin) sings as if he were peering into the future from the world we’ve all just - and so, very recently - left behind. “…At Any Moment” feels like a voice from the recent past preparing us for what we are all feeling right this very second, and reminding not to lose hope, as the chorus concludes:

“Everything is gonna be alright…right?” 

This mix of optimism and pessimism, hope and fear has defined much of LUXXURY’s recent output. “The most interesting music to me mixes moods. I don’t want to hear happy lyrics and happy music, there needs to be conflict for it to transcend the mundane.” In an era of stressful politics, disease, and general anxiety, LUXXURY refuses to stop making misleadingly funky music. Because everything is gonna be alright.

...At Any Moment

Whilst 2020 has seen nu-disco star Tim Bernhardt AKA Satin Jackets return to his roots, releasing an EP of equally chilled- and blissed-out instrumental cuts, fans of the vocal collaborations that marked the German producer's last album are well catered for with 'Think About It', a brand new single that nods towards a poppier direction and wouldn't sound out of place on last year's 'Solar Nights' LP.

Recorded earlier this year in the legendary Hansa Studios in Berlin, famous for having hosted the likes of David Bowie, Depeche Mode and Falco in the 70s and 80s, the storied building's atmosphere, an inspiration to songwriters and musicians for decades, quickly worked its magic on Tim.

"I was in Berlin for a few days to meet and work with songwriters from around the world, and really it's not hard to be motivated when you're in a place with a history like Hansa." He explains. "It's like it has this aura from all the great records that have been recorded there over the years, it left us in awe and was very inspiring. Anyway time to do some proper disco I thought and so that's what we did."

And "proper disco" is exactly what we've got here. A beat that will kick your feet into gear, a bass line to engage your hips, guitars, pianos and strings all coming together to deliver the kind of sun kissed melodies Satin Jackets fans know and love and then to top it all off a stunning vocal performance to ensure that much like the lyrics say this is one track won't be able to get out of your mind this summer.
