Ok, I'm really not sure how I feel about this. I knew of AI's capability of generating non orchestral music but I didn't think the nuances and complexities of orchestral music could be handled by AI just yet. I was wrong.

I spent the last few hours prompting AI (Udio.com) to generate this orchestral film music track.  I didn't compose a note of it. I didn't arrange it, I didn't mix it, I didn't master it but I did prompt and re-prompt many times (almost a hundred times), created many remixes and edits. Its not perfect/great by any means. Its a little generic sounding. There are glitches, there are questionable bow changes and weird musical choices among other things but overall, this blew my freaking mind. I have no idea how this works under the hood. But one thing I kept thinking about is its just a matter of time for developers figure out how to create sample/ai hybrid orchestral virtual instruments that can be molded exactly how the composer wants. And they will sound like the real deal, if properly composed, arranged and balanced of course.

This is wild. At this point I'm not sure yet if AI will replace composers in the future (that's a whole other intense topic) but I know it will provide them with amazing new tools to compose music with (not prompt but actually compose). Like how when full frame digital cameras made high quality film-making accessible to a lot of people. People still needed to learn how to use them and they needed to be creative and know what they're doing though to produce good results. New, more sophisticated and cheaper tools are around the corner! Maybe there will even be AI assisted composing tools (like AI assisted industrial design, AI assisted learning etc...). Cubase co-pilot?

But I could be wrong. What do I know.

PROGRAM NOTE
Autumn Songs for mezzo-soprano is my final song cycle celebrating the seasons. As with my previous three seasonal cycles for different voice types, this cycle contains settings of poems by various American poets.

Like Spring Songs, Autumn Songs begins with New York: a setting of Evelyn Scott’s Ascension: Autumn Dusk in Central Park, an early 20th century Imagist poem in which people seem to merge at dusk. The second movement is a setting of Under the Harvest Moon by Carl Sandburg. In this poem, Sandburg uses autumn and summer as a metaphor for people in two different periods of life, revealing beauty in both stages. Memory is the primary concern for someone who is older, and possibly for someone who is younger. The third movement is a setting of All Hallows’ Eve by Dorothea Tanning, who was not only a poet, but also a well-known visual artist whose early work was inspired by Surrealism. This is perhaps the most playful setting, and I used Tanning’s evocative, Surrealistic imagery as inspiration for colorful sounds and angular dissonances in the ensemble. November for Beginners by Rita Dove is the text for the fourth movement. In this setting, Dove beautifully encapsulates the feeling of waiting for winter in November, and the sense of anticipation one feels during the fall months. At the end of her poem, she uses the sound of zithers as a metaphor for the sounds of wind and rain when spring comes. The final movement, a setting of Leaves Before The Wind by May Sarton, is inspired by Irish jigs, and mimics leaves blowing in the wind. The penultimate section is anthemic, and the end of the movement is more calm and similar to the beginning.

Autumn Songs - V. Leaves Before The Wind (Text by May Sarton)

Amateur pianist and composer, studying and practicing for 6 years, member of BMI - Broadcast Music Inc.
All of these compositions are made in my free time, mostly inspired by my favorite books, movies, and TV shows (My inspiration also comes from my favorite composers). I prefer to compose piano solo tracks, but cinematic orchestra is my second favorite genre of music and I have been practicing a lot in that genre. 
I will probably publish small and unreleased tracks here on SoundCloud
