"Sinfonietta" was completed in April 2021. The work is scored for Wind Septet (consisting of Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, Trumpet, and Horn), Timpani, and String Orchestra.

"Sinfonietta" is roughly based on material from the composer's "Piano Sonata No. 6" and "Passacaglia", two works originally conceived and composed as part of one multi-movement work for piano.

This single-movement sonata by composer Robert John Brooks effectively contrasts frantic, rapidly  unfolding sections of two-voice counterpoint with more poignant, introspective chordal sections. The harmonic language is atonal, and the rhythmic idiom is incredibly varied and skillfully wrought.
