Performance notes:
•	Tempo, expression, and dynamic markings should be strictly observed.
•	Required pedaling is marked in the score but additional pedaling may be applied as needed.
•	There is no key signature. Accidentals apply to the end of the measure or to the note tied over the measure, and only to notes of the same pitch class, in the same octave.
•	Hairpin pairs (e.g.: <>, >< ) indicate a temporary volume change of one dynamic level
•	Passages marked fff and ppp indicate playing as loudly and as quietly as possible, respectively.

String Quartet No. 1 is a wild ride through early 20th Century Expressionism.

String Quartet No. 1  (remix)

"Noir Suite" is a four-movement work for Wind Quintet. The intent of each movement, or "scene", is to  convey an ethos similar to that often found in the 1940's detective movie genre where the musical style is dramatic and often expressionist.

This wind ensemble version is scored for flute, oboe, English horn, Bb clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, French horn, C trumpet, trombone, and tuba. It is a challenging, even virtuosic foray into colorful and continually evolving instrumental combinations, unified by a highly rhythmic texture with moments of lyricism."

After completing my doctorate in composition in 1979 from UNT, I took 30 years off from composing to join the computer software revolution as a software engineer.  In 2010 I began composing again and have not stopped. So, I find myself beginning (restarting?) a composition career rather late in life...but that's OK.  Most of the works posted here were written since 2010.
