Australasia has always played a significant part in the development of the underground dance scene, with numerous icons blazing a path that many have since travelled. Two artists that continue to represent the southern hemisphere with considerable aplomb, GMJ and Matter return to Proton Music to deliver a second outstanding original EP for the label through the superlative, "Osmosis".

An artist of growing repute, Gavin Griffin, has been at the forefront of his Melbourne home city's dance movement for a number of years and through a variety of guises, most notably under his GMJ moniker. A producer with a wealth of talent at his disposal, his ability to "build a sonic palette that shifts, opens and expands to deeper states", GMJ has seen his music on some of the underground industry's finest imprints as Replug, Vapour and Balkan Connection are among a rapidly growing number that clamour for his work. Supported by industry giants that include Hernan Cattaneo, John Digweed and Nick Warren, further recognition of his contribution to underground dance came from a "Best of Beatport 2016" nomination.

Similarly, Melbourne resident, Matty Doyle, has achieved significant success with his Matter soubriquet. An artist at the cutting edge of the underground movement, his work continues to draw considerable attention among the 'great and good' of the dance arena. A renowned DJ in his home country and beyond, Matter's passion for his craft shines through in all he undertakes. A regular for blue-chip imprints that include, Balkan Connection, JOOF and Particles, his December 2016 "Pronoia" EP for Proton Music drew plaudits from across the DJ industry with admirers that include Eelke Kleijn, Hernan Cattaneo and Mark Knight, supporting his work.

Joining forces on multiple occasions over the past twelve months, the May 2016 "Superposition" EP for Proton Music was a standout moment for the GMJ and Matter collaborative sound, with subsequent remixes coming from Oliver Lieb and Rich Curtis. December 2016 saw a best-selling remix of Pete K's "Utopia" for the label and, joining forces once again, the "Osmosis" EP shines a light on the duo's abundant flair.

Premiered at the 2017 "Rainbow Serpent Festival", "Osmosis" is a beautifully crafted affair, rich in bass swagger and depth. A crisp percussive shell and dominant beat encapsulate the melodic overtones within, as an evolving lead line creates a joyous atmosphere above the edgy bass progression below. Building effortlessly at the mid-point breakdown, luscious pads and open-filtered synths fill the airwaves before rhythm and melody join forces once again in the latter stages.

"11 Moons" is full of subtle groove and brooding tones as a carefully constructed rhythm nestles atop proceedings, anchored by a deep sub bass that keeps all elements in check. A sumptuous lead line then opens up in modulated and delayed glory as an intelligent key change demands listener attention. Rising and falling with consummate ease, the stripped back rhythmic foundations help fashion a deliciously meandering melodic work that drifts serenely in the space it creates for itself, making the title particularly apposite.

As GMJ and Matter continue their work, the gradual assimilation of sound and ideas into listener consciousness by "Osmosis", is a tribute to the duo's passion and skill.

SMB Records returns with a two track EP from PRZM.
The french duo from Marseille gives us a fresh and revisited Ethereal Techno with this two incredible tracks : Renaissance & Attraction.

They takes the listener on a journey through dimensions unknown as spectral soundscapes create a distinct sense of otherworldliness.

This week we are honoured to showcase two very good friends of ours, the extremely talented GMJ & Matter. This is the recording of their live set from our most recent event, Wild People. 

GMJ (Gavin Martin) & Matter (Matty Doyle) joined forces in late 2015, inspired initially through an interview Matter penned for PHW that showed his understanding of & passion for sound & its connectedness to the bigger picture of life as a whole. A triggered recognition & magnetism for the twos shared perspectives & love for deep atmospheric music led to the formation of the GMJ & Matter collaboration.

Already drawn by a respect for each others unique sound, their meeting point soon saw them in the studio crafting the acclaimed “Superposition ep” for Proton music, which was debuted at 2016 Rainbow Serpent Festival & released afterwards to big success, supported by industry heavyweights including Hernan Cattaneo & Cid Inc. This was followed by the “Osmosis / 11 moons” EP in 2017 which further highlighted the pairs distinct & accomplished sound.

A natural synergy & seamless understanding has seen works flow ever since, including remixes for Pete K & Andre Sobota on Proton Music, the huge of success of their original track “Earthless” on the mighty Anjunadeep, remixing each others work for Particles & PHW elements, a remix for Funkform on Aussie juggernaut Open Records, & many more exciting releases soon to be unveiled.

With constant inspiration raising the heights in reflection, the future is to the stars!

"The 9th release of Infinite Depth will be in the name of the Italian producer Recode. Three well shaped originals accompanied by two great remixes by respectively the Italian Alberth and Dutch newcomers Convolute.

'Irreale' is the title track of the EP. It's a track with a catchy melody and interesting arrangement of percussion. It brings a lot of groove with in between the groove lingering breaks, creating impressive moments.

In the remix by Alberth, he replaced the groove for a more atmospheric techno approach. With his typical deep and immersive sound, he managed to create a very suitable remix, which is perfectly in line with the original track.

The third track is called 'Artefatto'. In this track Recode took his groove to an even higher level by letting the percussion and bass communicate in a unique way.

'Sospiro' could be seen as the most optimistic track of the EP. A beautiful melody, which floats fluently through the track, is connected with a matching lead, which are shaping a dazzling ambiance together.

The remix of 'Sospiro' by Convolute could be seen as driving version of the original track. They took the main idea of the original and surrounded it by some more progressive sounds. To keep the emotion they managed to add a touching synth, which gives the EP a powerful end."
