I 'made up' the bassline, which means i don't really know where it came from. I used to listen to a lot of Sly and Robbie in my youth so it's possible it's one of theirs'. Or just something my subconscious put together,
I could say it's a '"call to arms" but i don't like the implications of that, of violence. There has been more than enough violence. Time to try something else. Africa is all of our ancestral home, our Mother-land. Perhaps all Africa's children can fight together - "When the right time come, it will be dread for some, because no-one can stop the righteous ones".

Call to Peace

All played on two bass strings on a jumble sale guitar (well , almost). I enjoy the crossover and historical connections with Flamenco music. We are all gypsies through this world; (yes i know the G word is not PC, but the word has a resonance that 'travellers' does not.)

Electric Desire

I found a copy of this letter at the back of a drawer when i cleared out my dead parents house. There were piles of stuff that had not been touched in years. My father and his mother made it out of Nazi Czechoslovakia alive, most of their family didn't.
The cello is a loop of a friend Polly Henderson playing a Yiddish tango called "Papirosn" ("Cigarettes"} which was apparently a favourite at the time of the letter - perhaps it was some dark humour that drew an equivalence between dying people and burning cigarettes...
The drum is a sample of a Native American shaman.
The letter is read by my friend Rachel, who is an AI.
And the bit of guitar strumming is me.

Belsen / Papirosn

An attempt to paint a musical picture of a dream that i had. I have some very dark dreams - i can't decide if it's the Parkinsons disease eating my brain or a side-effect of the drugs i have to take. Maybe i'm just a dark person!

Wolves

Backing track is "Fanga", a West African rhythm that i learned a long time ago and that was apparently played by the, sadly lost, 'Fanga' tribe when they went visiting ("Hide the beer everybody, i can hear the Fanga coming!"). It's played on a tiny Korg micro-drum machine. It got me thinking about a musical journey i once made to West Africa, and how 'the youth' were playing drum and bass tracks on their drums, and how traditional music, and identity (e.g. tribal) evolves.
