Nick Jones is a professional musician and music teacher. He works as a self-employed musician, session musician and tutor within local high schools where he teaches violin, viola, piano and music theory.

Nick grew up being taught through the Suzuki and  Classical repertoire since the age of 4 on piano and violin. He obtained Grade 8 violin at age 11, Grade 8 piano age 13, and an ATCL (Associate of the Trinity College of London) performance diploma in solo piano by age 15. He has developed and is versatile in playing a broad range of musical styles/genres professionally from Classical, Folk, Rock, Pop, Jazz to Electronic music.  Nick creates instrumental interpretations of popular classic works from well known operas and other timeless musical classics, to modern pop, rock and jazz to provide a new and fresh sound of musical entertainment for corporate live entertainment and weddings. 

Nick works as a session musician for independent record labels for artists requiring string or piano parts for songs on their albums whether it's a single part, or a dozen parts creating an orchestral string section. Working within high schools on the north shore of Auckland, Nick has been at Rangitoto College for several years as violin, viola, casual piano tutor and one of the chamber music coordinators preparing over a dozen trios and quartets each year to compete in the national chamber music contest.   

Nick studied a Bachelors of Music at university majoring in Jazz Performance graduating with post-graduate Honours through the New Zealand School of Music, a conjoint between Massey and Victoria Universities. There he advanced his further developed his skill in musical interpretation, improvisation, arrangement  and a vast repertoire of jazz standards that all have helped prepare him for the professional music industry. 

 "I take my music very seriously and allow myself to be emotionally involved with my music when performing. A musician shouldn't just play the notes on the page mechanically, but to truly listen and feel every note, communicate the personality of the piece of music. Be individualistic with your style of playing but also be respectful to the piece of music you play, and portray your own personality to achieve a truly emotionally connected and passionate style of playing, expressed through your instrument". - Nick Jones
