Pour A Glass of Gratitude (Stadium Anthem Version)

“One” is not just a song.
It’s a crack in the chest.
A thin line of light cutting through what’s broken
and—miraculously—still shining.

Forsebasky holds it in his hands
the way you hold something alive:
with respect, with silence,
with the awareness that certain songs cannot be remade—
they can only be *guarded*.

His cover refuses excess:
just a held breath,
a bare heartbeat,
a fragile balance between devotion and vision.
He adds nothing.
He strips everything down.
He lets the song reveal its own wound
and its own strength.

“One” by U2 speaks of what keeps us together
even when everything pushes us apart:
imperfect love,
promises that sting,
the desperate need to remain one
even when we know we’re no longer the same.

It’s a prayer without a church,
a request whispered through clenched teeth,
a “stay” born from a “I can’t do this anymore.”

And Forsebasky, as producer and arranger,
does not reinterpret—
he *accompanies*.

He doesn’t rebuild the song;
he lets it *be*,
the way you let a stormy sea be:
from a distance,
with eyes that can’t look away.

“One” remains what it has always been:
a wound that binds.
A naked truth.
A bridge built with trembling hands.

And this version is its quiet echo—
a gentle touch that doesn’t try to heal,
but simply remembers.


I heard this one song from U2, Gloria, the first song on their second album. I was never a fan of the band in the first place, but there was something about this song that really rubbed my brain the wrong way, especially Edge’s guitar parts. He plays all this note-y stuff which steps all over Bono’s vocals. The two sounds are fighting each other for the entire song, and it’s totally ill-advised.

I have the fancy software at home where it can reverse engineer some stems, separating all the instrument tracks. So, I ran the song through that software, ditched all of Edge’s guitar parts and recorded my own, which are radically different from Edge’s, and pretty much transform the song into something totally new. The drums, bass and vocals are the originals, untouched outside of some minor remixing and remastering.

Well, no, the drums are totally maxed out so now they sound like they recorded the song in a proper recording studio instead of somebody’s kitchen. And that thing that sounds like a synthesizer in the solo section is just more of my guitar run through some trippy effects. I even managed to work in a Tears for Fears percussion loop. And I added that last bit because I thought it sounded nice.

So this is me, in 2025, playing guitar with U2 in 1981.

Yesterday's release, was missing some guitar parts that have been restored.  No Way Home starts slow before growing to a big, loud song with even bigger vocals.  Happy Thanksgiving!

I’ve made several attempts at improving upon the original recording (obviously I really like this song) and here’s my latest effort. Less ethereal guitar and more gentle ballad. Over a 40 year span, I have written a countless number of songs, alone or in collaboration with others.  Here, you will find the product of those efforts with many songs recently re-recorded.  Frequently, earlier versions live here as well. All songs were written by me (RC Sterling) unless otherwise noted.  While several singers contribute to what you hear, the most common element across the material is a commitment to crafting catchy pop/rock/alternative tunes. In some instances AI programs have been used to isolate older vocal tracks when the original audio files could not be found.  All tracks have been auto tuned and pitch corrected as needed. Unfortunately, nothing could help those demos that featured my lead vocals. 😁
