Hi Nick. Me again. Why are you so goddamn talented? Again? Or.. still? I wanted to listen to this earlier but never really found the mindset for it, cause I know your music must not under *any* circumstances be wasted on a pair of inattentive ears. But now I did. And oh boy.. if you could put words like beauty, serenity, melancholy and (my favourite) transcendence into an audio-visual medium free of language, *this* piece and it's accompanying video would - be - it. Holy. The way you use chaotic elements and a rather "free-form" compositional style to craft something so emotive and robust will never stop to astound me. Never.

The Gate of the Dreaming Cosmos is composed in 2018 by Gavin Kwok. 
He was inspired by the concept of Flammarion Engraving for the use in CGI Animated Short Film "Sputnik " by Maxim Zhestkov in BIFSC.

Dreaming Cosmos (2018)

This is a piece I wrote many years ago, and recorded this duet with myself on Mandolin, and my good friend Allan Cook on Guitar.

I uploaded this piece some time ago as private, and shared with a few people whom I have come to be friends with here on SoundCloud, but have decided to release it publicly, at the urging of one such friend, Liz Dicker (Thank You Liz).

This is a special piece to me, as I wrote it when I was much younger, about 20 or so. In addition, my sister Kristina requested it for her wedding in place of traditional music.

It was also a defining moment, when Allan and I realized we had a special musical connection. I wrote the mandolin part, and when I showed him what I had written, he picked up his acoustic guitar, and like magic, he just knew what to play to perfectly accompany what I had written. This was not the only time this was evident, but it was the first time it was crystal clear to us both.

This recording is an excerpt from an extended improvised jam session we had with other friends, and for which he has the entire recording on his channel. It was recorded informally, and as a live performance, or perhaps better described as a group of musical friends having fun. We opened the recording with Allan and I playing this piece, and then went where the wind took us from there.
