Get Physical is proud to announce the release of the first ever album from Chicago house luminary DJ Pierre. Entitled Wild Pitch: The Story, it collects originals and remixes old and new, and stands as a testament to the unique skill of one of dance music’s most important figures.

Famously, DJ Pierre as good as invented the squelch of acid house when playing with his Roland TR-303 drum machine as part of Phuture back in the late eighties. From there he went on to clock up more than 200 credits under aliases like Doomsday, Prime One, Raving Lunatics, AC!D FACE, DJ Pierre’s Afro Acid Project and many more.

He also became famous for the Wild Pitch mixes and alias that lend this album its name: they were characterised by long intros, layer upon layer of strings, repetitive vocal samples, and filtered hypnotic sounds on hard beats. Working with labels like Strictly Rhythm, Trax, King Street, Nite Grooves, International Deejay Gigolo and more recently Get Physical, Pierre has contributed hugely to the global evolution of house music for thirty years plus. This is a timely reminder of that and one that is jam packed with essential tunes that, old or new, still sound impossibly fresh.

Things kick off with 2016’s Blunted Dummies track ‘House For All’ (DJ Pierre Wild PiTcH Mix), which is a deep and emotive opener. The classic ‘MuSiQ’ is then a soulful cut with big female vocals, ‘Meet Hate With Love’ pairs raw percussion with gospel singing from Chicago born Ann Nesby and big pianos whilst a 2017 update of the seminal ‘Generate Power’ is a freewheeling party starter with trumpet stabs and loopy basslines.

A Wild PiTcH mix of ‘Let The Music Take You Higher’ finds Pierre in peak time mode, then his excellent ‘What Is House Muzik' appears remixed to perfection by Get Physical’s Roland Leesker. Also included is a cover version of Donna Summer’s classic and pioneering disco cut ‘I Feel Love’. It is a 9 minute masterpiece of loose drums, wild acid lines and synthesised squelches that build and build before the vocal, sang by Atlanta’s own Chic Loren, arrives and carries you away to the stars.

The definitive anthem ‘House Music’ sees Pierre link with fellow Chicago icon Marshall Jefferson, his trademark acid sound makes an appearance on ‘Thousand Finger Acid’ and ‘Strobe Light Laser ACID’ then more 2017 updates of classics including ‘Fall’, ‘Master Blaster’ and Love And Happiness’ bring the tunes right up to date with main room vibes and that real Chicago attitude that cannot be imitated.

This is a landmark album that packs a real punch as well as documenting one of the most legendary figures house music has ever known.

He began Djing at popular clubs in the city  sharing cabin with best dj’s in town. In the field of musical production he is working with labels like: Poetry In Motion, Black Jukebox, Large Music, Peppermint, DiKSO, Masterworks Music, Sub_Urban among them.

MIX SESSION #11 | Hurlee

Classic 90's house, techno & club cuts inspired by my years as a resident dj at the Queen club in Paris. From 1993-1995 I was a resident DJ there and it was pretty much at Queen that I cut my teeth as a dj. I was hired by none other than David Guetta who was the artistic director there at the time in addition to being a dj for some of the special events there. My nights consisted of 7-9 hour sets, (all vinyl of course!), totally up for it crowd, insane dancefloor energy, dj booth literally on the dancefloor (with no booth monitors for the first 6 months or so!) and loads of good music that's slipped through the cracks in the mp3/laptop era of dj'ng we're in now. It was also the birth of the whole 'French Touch' house scene and you'd see all the young producers out on the dancefloor soaking up the vibes.
I've recently been trying to archive lots of tapes & music from that era as I have tons of tapes from that time. Upon listening to lots of these tapes one thing was apparent...the level of dodgy mixing from all of us there was astonishing! But the music and energy were so good that mixing was always secondary to good track selection. So I felt like it was time do a nice mix of lots of the tracks that were actually being played in that era. Lots of the stuff on this mix is encoded from my original vinyl copies. After going through my records from that era it's truly astonishing the amount of music that isn't available as an mp3 and never will be. So I'd like to think of this as another mix in my 'archive' series. Hope you all enjoy it!

BIO:
Nick Nice has been dj'ing for 20+ years. An avid music collector since childhood he began his dj career in earnest in order to share his passion with the public. He was one of the founders of the midwest rave scene, organizing some of the first events in the United States back in 1991. While living in France for several years he was a resident dj at the infamous Queen club, located on the Champs-Elysées in Paris. He was hired by David Guetta who was the artistic director at the time. He has also performed extensively throughout France and continental Europe. In addition Nick was one of the first international dj's to play in Moscow, Russia in 1993.

After moving back to the U.S. he ran a successful record store, Nice Musique, for several years. He also had a top rated radio show called Fromage on what was then known as Power 105.9. He moved home in order to be closer to his family. His son, Maceo was born on April 28th, 2010. While based in Madison, he performs there regularly and has been voted best dj in the city by various local media outlets for many years in a row. He also plays often throughout the midwest, with shows at the world-renowned Smart Bar &amp; Moonshine in Chicago, The Highbury in Milwaukee (to name but a couple of places) and regularly returns to France, continuing to spread his love of music wherever he is. 

He has performed with many amazing artists such as; Hot Chip, Claude Monnet, Dimitri from Paris, Kaskade, David Guetta, Daft Punk, Kevin Saunderson, L.A. Riots, Bonobo, Richie Hawtin, John Acquaviva, Laurent Garnier, Alice Russell, Hercules & Love Affair, Derrick May, Deep Dish, BT, Dirty Vegas, Scott Hardkiss, Boo Williams, Green Velvet, Dj Drama, Dixon, Jazzanova, Dirty Vegas, Faze Action, Idjut Boys, Pure Science, Roy Davis, Jr., Woody Mcbride & many more...

Nick also produces music with his friend Brad Owen under the alias of The Regionalists. Their first release, Live Nude Rhodes, sold over 2000 copies on vinyl. They have also done several remixes, most notably one for Amnesty International's 40th Anniversary in collaboration with the Buddha Bar mix CD series. Nick's musical style is not limited to any one genre in particular; preferring to play for the vibe of the venue, the crowd and his mood in general. 

One thing is for sure; Nick's love of music, life and bringing different groups of people together always comes across no matter what the setting. Nick Nice will always make you dance or get your head nodding and guarantees you will have a good time when he is performing.
