Following on from his acclaimed 2017 debut album and an accompanying EP that relaunched the legendary British label, Novamute, Nicolas Bougaïeff presents a three track EP on Max Cooper’s Mesh imprint out June 26th. ‘Dust’ borrows its name from a short story by Greg Egan, in which a future scenario grants humans the ability to duplicate their consciousness as software, thus experiencing immortality.

Inspired by this narrative, Nicolas decided to focus on the experiences of the main character, who observes himself becoming increasingly disordered in his surroundings. As such, the EP is equal parts exhilarating and disturbed, taking references from melodic techno and distorting them into new forms amongst vast, unfamiliar landscapes.

‘Dust’ presents a glitchy melodic lead which unravels itself through 7 minutes of sudden volume changes and expansive acoustics. ‘Bremsstrahlung’ deconstructs the components of a hypnotic techno track, repurposing them into a tense framework. ‘Dust Theory’ morphs the theme from the title track into an abstract cocktail of ambient wanderings and harsh noise pollution.

Crafting effects is one of the most fun things to do, as you can let your imagination run riot. Most FX sounds in a track are fleeting, so you can push the sound design more, without having to worry quite so much about how it will fit in the mix. We’re going to create a dubby, brass stab delay effect using Logic’s stock plug-ins…

I love Brecon's first mini album release, so I wanted to get involved with the remixes, but it wasn't an easy job, they seem to have constructed their music in an extremely efficient and effective manner where everything is optimised and used at it's best, with nothing extra added, if you know what I mean when you hear it! So for that reason I stuck relatively closely to their original track, and just tried to add some of my own flavour to the mix, which in practice meant lots of live jamming with my Prophet and playing around with percussion detailing, along with a new drum pattern and arrangement, and, of course, some enveloping chords.

Producer / Writer of electronic Trackary and obsessive lover of all music. Na5ty is also a massive geek for all things tech. "I love analog gear and their digital plugin counterparts."

A mac user for the last 20 years and as such he has his own little Apple museum of tech accumulated over the years as he just can not part from them. 

Na5ty has worked as a Lighting Engineer and Consultant to the TV industry specialising in music. He has worked on projects such as iTunes festival, Mercury Sessions, From the Basement, Q Music, Series 1 & 2 of Live from Abbey Road, The Jo Whiley Show and did the lighting for Radioheads Lotus Flower video. 
He also also built and specked a full Protools HD3 studio in a 200 year old barn. His ability to tackle and take on multi disciplined tasks puts him in a unique position within the media industry and also awards him a vast experience to handle a varied project base. "i like to have ago at everything and really get my hands dirty, even if its something I've not attempted before."

His love of music has finally lead him to begin making his own compositions. "I am now happy that i can share it on this great community with all you good people."
